Jeff Daniels to Play James Comey & Brendan Gleeson to Play Donald Trump in CBS Mini Series

A CBS mini series based on former FBI Director James Comey‘s book “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership” is in the works and we now know the actors set to play the title roles.

Jeff Daniels is set to take on the role of Comey, while Brendan Gleeson will portray President Donald Trump.

Jeff is so perfect for this part. Great actor, instant integrity, loads of warmth, intelligence, complexity and gravitas. We talked backstage after I saw him in ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ on Broadway, and I knew I was looking at the only person who could play Jim Comey. Lucky for me, he said yes,” screenwriter Billy Ray told Variety of Jeff’s casting.

“It’s hard to imagine a bigger acting challenge than playing Donald Trump,” Ray said of Gleeson. “You have to have presence, and a singular kind of dynamism. You also have to have the courage and the will to play Trump’s psychology from the inside out. Oh, and you have to be spectacularly talented and watchable. Not many actors check all those boxes. Brendan does. I’m ecstatic about this.”

No air date is currently set, but the show will begin production on the four-hour mini-series in November.

The series is described as “a compelling family drama that will explore the tattered American dream through the eyes of complicated and compromised chief of police Del Harris (Daniels) in a Rust Belt town in southwest Pennsylvania. When the woman he truly loves sees her son accused of murder, Harris is forced to decide what he’s willing to do to protect him.”

Jeff Daniels is a bona fide giant on stage and screen, and Dan Futterman is a special writer and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have them together at Showtime,” said Showtime exec Gary Levine.

Jeff Daniels Says Democrats Need A Candidate To Take Trump On & 'Punch Him In The Face'

Jeff Daniels got fired up about the 2020 presidential election while making an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday (July 30)!

The Tony nominee told the audience that the racial themes of his Broadway play To Kill A Mockingbird are a stark wake-up call to a certain group of theater goers.

“It’s a mixed audience, but there’s a lot of… liberal white America sitting out there. This play is like a right hook to their chin. You watch the movie, you read the book, but you feel the play,” Jeff explained before comparing the story to the picture of a migrant father and his daughter after they had drowned while attempting to cross the border.

“You tell me that you’re going to go to the voting booth and you’re going to go, ‘They shouldn’t have crossed the river.’ Now there are people out there who believe that. Go ahead. Vote for him. Do it,” Jeff expressed.

“This is the second debate out of twenty? Jesus. You know, whittle it down, but we need somebody that can take this guy on, that can punch him in the face,” Jeff Daniels concluded – Watch the interview below!
