Jeffrey Tambor Denies Sexual Harassment Allegations Again, But Admits to Being Mean

Jeffrey Tambor is speaking out again in response to sexual harassment allegations.

The 73-year-old Transparent actor continues to deny the allegations from actress Trace Lysette and former assistant Van Barnes. He did admit to being “difficult” and “mean” on set though.

“I don’t want to characterize them,” Tambor told THR about the allegations. “What I said was that she was a disgruntled assistant. I think that was generous of me. I dispute her account. I did raise my voice at times, I was moody at times, there were times when I was tactless. But as for the other stuff, absolutely not.”

Tambor says playing Maura Pfefferman brought out a different side of him.

“I drove myself and my castmates crazy,” he said. “Lines got blurred. I was difficult. I was mean. I yelled at [series creator] Jill [Soloway] — she told me recently she was afraid of me. I yelled at the wonderful [executive producer] Bridget Bedard in front of everybody. I made her cry. And I apologized and everything, but still, I yelled at her. The assistant directors. I was rude to my assistant. I was moody. Sometimes I didn’t talk at all.”

“And this is where the reader says, ‘So what?’” he added. “You know? ‘You’re coming in from the Palisades, you drive in, you get a good paycheck, you get to play one of the best roles in the world. So. What.’ … But I was scared, because I was a cisgender male playing Maura Pfefferman. And my whole thing was, ‘Am I doing it right? Am I doing it right? Am I doing it right?’ To the point that I worried myself to death.”

David Cross Defends Jeffrey Tambor After 'Transparent' Exit Over Sexual Misconduct Allegations

David Cross, who has starred with Jeffrey Tambor on Arrested Development, is defending his former co-star.

Tambor was let go from Amazon’s Transparent after an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct.

“I can’t speak for everybody [on Arrested Development], but I know there are a number of us who stand behind him — from the limited amount we know, we stand behind Jeffrey – and I am one of them,” David said. “I think it’s very curious that Amazon didn’t make public the results of their internal investigation. I’m not sure why they would do that. I just know the whole thing is rather curious to me.”

The Arrested Development cast also includes Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Michael Cera and Alia Shawkat. The fifth season of Arrested Development was filming over the summer.

Jeffrey Tambor Speaks Out After Being Dropped from 'Transparent'

Jeffrey Tambor is speaking out after he was officially let go from the Amazon series Transparent following accusations of sexual harassment made against him.

It was initially reported that Tambor would not appear in the fifth season of the show, but then he said he had no intention of leaving.

Tambor was accused of sexual harassment by his former assistant Van Barnes and Transparent guest star Trace Lysette, who are both trans women.

“I am profoundly disappointed in Amazon’s handling of these false accusations against me,” he said in a statement (via Variety). “I am even more disappointed in Jill Soloway’s unfair characterization of me as someone who would ever cause harm to any of my fellow cast mates. In our four-year history of working together on this incredible show, these accusations have NEVER been revealed or discussed directly with me or anyone at Amazon. Therefore, I can only surmise that the investigation against me was deeply flawed and biased toward the toxic politicized atmosphere that afflicted our set. As I have consistently stated, I deeply regret if any action of mine was ever misinterpreted by anyone and I will continue to vehemently defend myself. I also deeply regret that this ground-breaking show, which changed so many lives, is now in jeopardy. That, to me, is the biggest heartbreak.”

Tambor has won two Emmys for his work as trans woman Maura Pfefferman on Transparent.

A rep for the 73-year-old actor apparently told the New York Times that he has “no plans to quit,” despite releasing a statement that lead many to believe he would be leaving the show.

Given the politicized atmosphere that seems to have afflicted our set, I don’t see how I can return to Transparent,” his statement last month read.
