Jenny Slate, Gina Rodriguez, Charlie Day & More To Star in Amazon's 'I Want You Back'

Jenny Slate and Gina Rodriguez have been cast in a brand new project together called I Want You Back.

The two actresses will star alongside Charlie Day, Scott Eastwood, Clark Backo, and Manny Jacinto in the Amazon Studios project, Deadline reports.

The film follows Emma (Slate) and Peter (Day) who thought they were on the precipice of life’s biggest moments – marriage, kids, and houses in the suburbs – until their respective partners dumped them.

In their thirties and terrified that they have missed their shot at happily ever after, Emma and Peter are horrified to learn that their partners have already moved on.

With no prospects on the horizon and the threat of dying alone hanging over their heads, they hatch a desperate plan to put an end to their exes’ new relationships and win them back.

Jason Orley will direct the film.

“I immediately fell in love with Isaac [Aptaker] and Elizabeth [Berger]’s funny, heartfelt script and I am so honored that they, along with the amazing team at Amazon are allowing me to bring their timeless love story to life and that I get to do it with such an incredible group of actors,” he said in a statement.

During her appearance, she joked about what she’s been doing amid the pandemic.

“I hunkered down and baked a lot of bread but I just wanna say I might have baked too much bread or eaten too much bread — you tell me,” she said before showing off her baby bump.

“I don’t know if you can see,” she joked.

“It’s different. I feel different. Um, how have the exact last nine months been? They’ve been real pregnant for me!” she went on to say.

She also talked about her fiance and added that it’s been “very nice to have something that is incredibly positive during a time that’s hard and sad…it’s nice to have, like, a little secret treasure.”

As for how she’s spending her time, Jenny said she’s “basically been chilling out” and “doing exactly what [she has] wanted to do, not having to see anyone or figure out how to gracefully wear pants…I haven’t worn pants in many moons.”

“And just my luck, I moved in with my fiancé, and of course he lives in a very old house that is, I think, most certainly haunted and has an actual pet cemetery. It has been in my fiancé Ben‘s family since the ’30s, I think, so it’s like 90 years of pets,” she said.

“At the beginning of the pandemic, when I was just newly pregnant, I started to go out and visit the pet cemetery every day. And Ben told me I started saying things like, ‘I’m just gonna go outside and visit the pets. That’s how a scary movie starts — a pregnant lady is like, ‘My pets. My precious, precious pets,’” she hilariously noted.

Ayo Edibiri to Replace Jenny Slate as the Voice of Missy on Netflix's 'Big Mouth'

Netflix‘s Big Mouth has found its new Missy.

Following the news that Jenny Slate decided to step down from voicing the role of the biracial character due to being white, Ayo Edebiri is now taking over the role, according to THR on Friday (August 28).

“At the start of the show, I reasoned with myself that it was permissible for me to play Missy because her mom is Jewish and White — as am I. But Missy is also Black, and Black characters on an animated show should be played by Black people,” Jenny said in a statement upon leaving.

“Production on the fourth season of Big Mouth had largely wrapped before Slate chose to stop playing the character. Edebiri will take over the role in the final two episodes, which is set to air in the fall, and has already recorded her lines. The series has been renewed through a sixth season at Netflix,” the outlet reported.

Jenny Slate Accidentally Invited a Random Stranger To Her Wedding

Jenny Slate opened up about her postponed wedding during an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and she revealed that she accidentally invited a random stranger to the event!

The 38-year-old actress is engaged to Ben Shattuck and they were planning on getting married at their house back in June, but the wedding has been postponed due to the pandemic.

Jenny and Ben decided to do email invites instead of paper ones, but she accidentally messed up one of the emails.

“I sent the email, and then I didn’t hear back from friend. I was like, ‘Hey, can you guys come to the wedding?’ And she was like, ‘Oh, we just thought maybe it was small and we weren’t invited. I was like, ‘No, you’re invited. Oh gosh, you know, check your spam.’ And then she was like, ‘Not in the spam.’ And when I looked back, I had messed up the name on the email by one letter,” she said.

Jenny added, “I’m not trying to assume that this lady is a fan or knows who I am, but if she does, she knows where I live and that we were going to get married at our house and blah blah blah. And then we sent a thing saying ‘Sorry, everybody! We’re not getting married.’ But I didn’t send it to her because I just felt so awkward about it.”

Jenny looked up the stranger and found that she likes to wear top hats in some of her pictures. She added, “So, on the day that we were supposed to get married, because I knew she hadn’t received the ‘sorry we’re not getting married anymore,’ I had this, like, weird fantasy she would show up.”

Jenny Slate Exits Netflix's 'Big Mouth': 'Black Characters on an Animated Show Should Be Played by Black People'

Jenny Slate is leaving Big Mouth.

The 38-year-old actress announced that she will no longer be voicing the role of Missy on the hit Netflix series, due to the character being biracial while she herself is white, she announced Wednesday (June 24).

“At the start of the show, I reasoned with myself that it was permissible for me to play ‘Missy’ because her mom is Jewish and white — as am I. But ‘Missy’ is also Black and Black characters on an animated show should be played by Black people,” she said.

By taking the role, she said she was “engaging in an act of erasure of Black people…ending my portrayal of ‘Missy’ is one step in a life-long process of uncovering the racism in my actions.”

“We thank Jenny for her decision and for creating with us an inspiring, compassionate and very human character. We look forward to being able to explore Missy’s story with even greater authenticity to come,” the show’s creators then said in a joint statement on social media.

If you missed it, Jenny recently revealed how she almost ruined her fiance’s marriage proposal for a hilarious reason. Find out what happened!
