Mayim Bialik Says It's 'An Unbelievable Opportunity' to Guest Host 'Jeopardy'

Mayim Bialik is getting ready to make her Jeopardy! debut!

The 45-year-old Big Bang Theory actress will be the latest star to guest host the long-running ABC competition series starting on Monday, May 31.

Ahead of her debut, Mayim, who has her PhD in neuroscience from UCLA, talked about getting the chance to guest host the show, saying it is an “immense honor” to stand in the late Alex Trebek‘s place.

“This is such an iconic and unbelievable piece of our collective culture, to be considered to be part of it really in any way, it’s an immense honor,” Mayim said. “Especially for someone who’s dedicated so much of my life to academia to knowing things and to being able to communicate things.”

As for what she hopes to bring to the show, Mayim said, “Being a woman of science, as I am, is something that I’m obviously very passionate about presenting myself as.”

She continued, “I really didn’t grow up with a lot of female role models and I think especially for young people — not just young girls, but for young girls and boys — to see that women can be scientists and can do these types of intellectual things, that feels very important to me.”

Mayim added, “Also, as a second generation American whose grandparents on one side never fully mastered the English language, it’s just an unbelievable opportunity to see what in two generations my family has been able to see.”

Mayim will be serving as guest host of Jeopardy! from May 31 through June 11.

Just recently, one of the Jeopardy! producers teased that the new permanent host of the show will be announced soon.

Jeopardy! Fans Have The Best Reactions To Jennifer Lopez & Ben Affleck Being The Very First Clue on Friday's Show

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were spotted together once again during a getaway to Montana just last week, and it looks like Jeopardy! already knew it.

While the show is filmed weeks in advance, and during the Friday night (May 14) show, a clue about Jennifer and Ben was the first answer the contestants had to answer.

“As a couple, they were known as ‘Bennifer’,” the answer read on the giant board.

But that’s not all, not only were Jennifer and Ben the very first clue, in Double Jeopardy, there was an entire category dedicated to Montana.

“As a couple, they were jointly known as ‘Bennifer’” IS #JEOPARDY MISS CLEO AND/OR TROLLING US ALL?! Also can’t believe the guy got it wrong. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. Iconic couple,” one fan reacted to the clue on Twitter.

Earlier today, it was revealed that the former couple were still in communication and “talking every day”. Check out the details here!

Bill Whitaker Details What It's Really Like To Guest Host 'Jeopardy!' Ahead Of Debut

Bill Whitaker is set to take over the podium on Jeopardy! tonight (May 3), for the first of his two week stint on the popular trivia show as guest host.

The 69-year-old CBS Correspondent chatted with the Washington Post ahead of the premiere episode and opened up about what went into guest hosting the program.

“I work in television news, which is a totally different animal. I’m used to talking to one camera,” he shared with the paper. “Here, you had, I think, four cameras — one swoops in from the side, you talk to that one at the end of one commercial, and then swoops to another one you have to talk to after a commercial, and then the contestants are over on the other side. The thing that I was most surprised about was just how fast-paced it is.”

Bill revealed that he only had one day to rehearse for his appearance, ahead of filming.

“I probably could have used two,” he admits, and added that he quickly picked up on the correct Jeopardy! lingo: contestants give “responses,” not answers, and hosts say a response is “incorrect” instead of wrong.

Bill added that there were a “couple of times I had to pinch myself to say, ‘Oh my gosh! Look where I am. This is crazy’. It looks just like it looks on television. You’re not watching on the box, you’re actually there. The big screen and the questions and the podiums with the guests and the directors and the producers and the whole thing. It is quite surreal.”

“It becomes easier, show by show,” he shared about hosting. “Around show seven, I was like, ‘I think I’ve got this!’ I was feeling a little bit more comfortable. Then you’ve got show eight, nine, 10 and you’re out.”

Like with guest hosts in the past weeks, Jeopardy will be donating to a charity of Bill‘s choice, in an equal amount to the cumulative winnings of the contestants that compete while they’re hosting.

He has chosen the Media Fellowship House, which is a non-partisan interracial and interfaith organization based in Media, Pennsylvania. The house has been used to hold programs for children and senior citizens, and also host civics groups and civil rights activities.

Jeopardy! airs weekdays. Check your local listings for times and channels.
