Jerry Seinfeld Speaks to Rumors That He Once Practiced Scientology

Jerry Seinfeld made an appearance on Marc Maron‘s WTF podcast this week, and Marc asked him directly about the rumors that he was one a practicing Scientologist.

“Why does everyone say you were a Scientologist once?” Marc asked the famous comedian.

“I did do a course in Scientology in, like, 1975,” Jerry responded. “I found it very interesting, but I never pursued it.”

He did say he found the “emphasis on ethical behavior” fascinating, but he also didn’t like the aspect of “avoiding negative people.”

He had previously spoken about the Scientology rumors in 2008 to Parade, saying, “Believe it or not…it’s extremely intellectual and clinical in its approach to problem-solving, which really appealed to me. It was very helpful. I took a couple of courses. One of them was in communication, and I learned some things about communication that really got my act going….They have a lot of very good technology. That’s what really appealed to me about it. It’s not faith-based. It’s all technology. And I’m obsessed with technology.”

Jason Alexander Says He Was Bribed to Leak 'Seinfeld' Secrets

Jason Alexander says that people tried to get him to leak secrets from the series finale of Seinfeld in exchange for money!

The actor recently had a virtual reunion with co-star Julia Louis-Dreyfus on Instagram Live and they opened up about the buzz surrounding the series finale. The studio had to build walls around the set to prevent paparazzi from catching photos from the finale shoot.

“I remember thinking at that time, ‘Seriously? Who gives a s–t?’” Julia said.

While Jason agreed, he revealed that his own publicist had asked him if he’d want to leak secrets.

“My own publicist — I don’t know if this came for you, too — my publicist was asking me if I was willing to leak out some secrets for money,” Jason said (via Variety). “And I went, ‘They’ll kill us!’ How can you do that?”

When Julia said that she hoped Jason fired the publicist, he jokingly said, “No, I gave him a raise.”

The series finale of Seinfeld aired on May 14, 1998 and it was watched by 76.3 million people.
