'When They See Us' Star Jharrel Jerome To Lead 'I'm A Virgo' Series Headed to Amazon

Jharrel Jerome is set to lead Amazon Studios’ new series, I’m A Virgo, according to Deadline.

The series will be a half hour show from the mind of Sorry to Bother You writer-director Boots Riley and a co-production between The Morning Show producer Media Res and Amazon Studios.

I’m A Virgo is described as an “absurdist, coming-of-age joyride about a 13-foot-tall Black man who lives in Oakland, CA.”

Jharrel will also be an executive producer on the project.

Since starring in Netflix’s When They See Us, Jharrel has picked up many accolades, including a Critics’ Choice Award and even the Best Actor award at the 2019 Emmy Awards.

Jharrel recently opened up about his role in the Netflix movie and why it was important to tell the story that many people haven’t heard.

The 22-year-old actor won the award for Best Actor in a Miniseries/Movie for his role in When They See Us at the 2020 Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday (January 12) at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.

Earlier in the awards, Jharrel joined his co-stars and creator Ava DuVernay on stage as When They See Us won the award for Best Limited Series.

The Netflix show took home the award for Best Limited Series at the 2020 Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday (January 12) at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.

On hand to accept the award was creator Ava DuVernay along with cast members Jharrel Jerome, Niecy Nash, John Leguizamo, and Asante Blackk.

Viola Davis & Tiffany Haddish to Lead 'Good Times' Cast for 'Live in Front of a Studio Audience'

ABC has announced the star-studded cast who will recreate an episode of Good Times for the upcoming Live in Front of a Studio Audience special next week!

The one-night-only event will feature Viola Davis and Andre Braugher as Florida Evans and James Evans, Jay Pharoah as J.J Evans, Asante Blackk as Michael Evans, Corinne Foxx as Thelma Evans, and Tiffany Haddish recreating the role of Willona Woods.

When They See Us actor Jharrel Jerome is also joining the cast while Anthony Anderson and Patti LaBelle will perform the theme song live.

An episode of All in the Family will also be part of the special and the cast of that episode has been announced.

Ben Platt flashes a smirk on the red carpet as he arrives at the 2019 American Music Awards on Sunday (November 24) at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The 26-year-old The Politician star looked cool in a green, leather jacket and red and black plaid trousers as he arrived at the show.

Patrick Schwarzenegger and Emmy winner Jharrel Jerome were also in attendance.

Jharrel Jerome On His 'When They See Us' Role: 'I Had To Do Justice To This Injustice'

Jharrel Jerome flashes a smile while speaking onstage at his SAG Nom Com screening and panel for When They See Us held at Linwood Dunn Theater at the Pickford Center for Motion Study on Sunday (November 17) in Hollywood.

The 21-year-old actor was joined at the event by series writer Michael Starrbury and executive producer Berry Welsh.

Jharrel took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role as Korey Wise on the Netflix series at the 2019 Emmy Awards.

“This man’s story is so powerful and so strong and painful that I knew that if I was going to be the one person blessed on this planet to tell this story that I had a job to do,” Jharrel Jerome recently expressed (via Fortune). “I would bring the pain that I allowed myself to dive into on set home with me. I had to do justice to this injustice.”

A lot of rising stars are being recognized at the 2019 Time 100 Next event held at Pier 17 on Thursday night (November 14) in New York City.

Among the celebs we’re highlighting in this post are The Farewell‘s Awkwafina, When They See Us‘ Emmy winner Jharrel Jerome, and singer Maggie Rogers.

Also featured here are Emmy-nominated actor and writer Ryan O’Connell from the Netflix series Special, as well as Slave Play writer Jeremy O. Harris.
