Jim Parsons Hired Mayim Bialik to Star in 'Call Me Kat' Because She's 'Annoying'

Doctors Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler are together again!

Jim Parsons
and Mayim Bialik had a virtual reunion on Ellen on Thursday (January 14).

The former Big Bang Theory co-stars appeared on the talk show to promote their new sitcom Call Me Kat, which Mayim stars in and is produced by Jim‘s production company.

During their interview, Mayim shared the story on how Jim approached her to star in the show.

“Jim came to me and he said ‘I want to know what you think about this project that my company has.’ It’s this Miranda show, it was really popular on the BBC,” Mayim shared.

‘So I went home, I did a little research, and I came back the next day and I said ‘Well, Jim, that seems like a really awesome project. Good luck, you’ve got my vote of confidence!’” Mayim continued. “And he said, ‘No, I’m asking because I want you to be in it!’ I was shocked because I think I’m very annoying, but however annoying I am, he obviously still wanted to work with me.”

Jim then jumped in and said, “I think that the annoying quality you bring is what America responds to, Mayim. I think that’s what this character wanted.”

Ellen jokingly added, “That’s very relatable. Everyone – we know some annoying, so that’s perfect.”

During a recent interview, Jim revealed that he auditioned for this comedy series before landing a role in Big Bang Theory.

Jim Parsons Recalls Auditioning For 'The Office' Before Landing 'Big Bang Theory'

Jim Parsons just revealed that he could’ve been part of The Office!

While promoting the new Fox sitcom Call Me Kat, on which he’s a producer, the 47-year-old Boys In The Band actor spoke about the challenges of adapting the series for American audiences.

Jim then revealed that before landing his role on The Big Bang Theory, he auditioned for one on The Office.

“I would say from our end, when this was brought to our attention that this was a possibility to use this format as a jumping off point for a new series, we were very excited but nervous because it succeeds so well on its own, the original,” he shared during a virtual press panel for the show. “And the two major things are who’s going to reframe this and reshape and around who? And if you don’t have both of them the way we do, it’s really not worth doing.”

He continued, “I’ll never forget I went to audition for the pilot of the American version of The Office. This was years ago, obviously. And I was like, ‘How stupid? It’s about an office. If America wanted their own office show they would have made it by now.’ So I’m not good at telling what’s gong to stay or not.”

Call Me Kat, which stars Mayim Bialik, will debut in January.

If you think you have it, what was like that thing stuck around for a month to six weeks.”

“And we didn’t even lose our sense of smell and taste until after two weeks, it was like one day I felt good enough to clean the house after we had been sick,” Jim continued. “I, how I’ll straighten up and I lit candles and that’s how I figured out it was gone. Cause I was like, I don’t smell those at all. And then I realized I can’t smell anything.”

The first trailer for The Boys in the Band is here!

Ryan Murphy has produced the movie version of the Broadway play, for which he won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play last year.

Here’s a synopsis: In 1968 New York City – when being gay was still considered to be best kept behind closed doors – a group of friends gather for a raucous birthday party hosted by Michael (Jim Parsons), a screenwriter who spends and drinks too much, in honor of the sharp-dressed and sharp-tongued Harold (Zachary Quinto). Other partygoers include Donald (Matt Bomer), Michael’s former flame, now mired in self-analysis; Larry (Andrew Rannells), a randy commercial artist living with Hank (Tuc Watkins), a school teacher who has just left his wife; Bernard (Michael Benjamin Washington), a librarian tiptoeing around fraught codes of friendship alongside Emory (Robin de Jesús), a decorator who never holds back; and a guileless hustler (Charlie Carver), hired to be Harold’s gift for the night. What begins as an evening of drinks and laughs gets upended when Alan (Brian Hutchison), Michael’s straight-laced college roommate, shows up unexpectedly and each man is challenged to confront long-buried truths that threaten the foundation of the group’s tight bond.

Look out for the film on Netflix on September 30, 2020.

Jim Parsons Goes In Depth About What Led To Him Leaving 'Big Bang Theory' After 12 Seasons

Jim Parsons is opening up about his decision to leave The Big Bang Theory, which ultimately led to the show ending.

During his appearance on David Tennant Does a Podcast With…, the 47-year-old actor explained to the former Doctor Who star that there were many reasons why he decided to end his run as Sheldon Cooper on the popular sitcom, and that included his dog passing away.

“Our final contract was for the last two years, but no one knew when we signed it what that would mean,” he started off and revealed that he “had a suspicion in my heart that that was going to be it for me when I did sign that contract.”

Jim continued, saying that his feelings of wanting to leave were affirmed after he had not only filming the show on his play, but also rehearsing for a play, appearing in an Intel commercials and his dog’s health was declining.

“I was exhausted. I was really upset about, more than anything, one of our dogs was getting really at the end of his life around then,” Jim says, as he mentions that a few days after his dog was put down, he slipped and broke his foot whilst on stage.

“It was the scariest moment for the next couple of days because I felt like I was at the edge of a cliff. I was teetering and I saw something really dark below between the death of the dog,” Jim added. “The bottom line was that it was a really intense summer. The dog passing away, he was 14, and Todd [Spiewak] and I had been together for 15 years at that point, so it just was the end of an era.”

“I had this moment of clarity that I think you’re very fortunate to get in a lot of ways, of going ‘Don’t keep speeding by’. You know? ‘Use this time to take a look around.’ And I did.”

Jim says another reason he chose to leave was that there were “other things I need to try and do. I don’t even know what they are, but I can tell that I need to try.”

The Big Bang Theory ended in 2019 and earned 10 Emmy Awards over the course of its 12 seasons on air.

Jim went on to star in Netflix’s Hollywood, and still voices Sheldon on Young Sheldon.
