Rupert Grint is opening up about his comments following JK Rowling‘s own comments towards the transgender community.

During an interview with Esquire, the 32-year-old actor revealed why he felt he was called to say something instead of remaining silent.

“I am hugely grateful [for] everything that she’s done. I think that she’s extremely talented, and I mean, clearly, her works are genius,” he first says. “But yeah, I think also you can have huge respect for someone and still disagree with things like that.”

Rupert added that not saying anything wasn’t an option for him.

“Sometimes silence is even louder,” he admits. “I felt like I had to because I think it was important to. I mean, I don’t want to talk about all that…Generally, I’m not an authority on the subject,” he collects himself again. “Just out of kindness, and just respecting people. I think it’s a valuable group that I think needs standing up for.”

Rupert was one of the many Harry Potter stars who did speak out following her comments, joining Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, and just recently, Ralph Fiennes, who played Voldemort in the franchise.

Ralph Fiennes, who played Voldemort in the Harry Potter films, is defending JK Rowling, the author of the books.

Last year, the famed author came under fire when she made comments about gender, that were widely viewed as transphobic.

In a new interview, Ralph told The Telegraph he “can’t understand the vitriol directed at her.” He added, “I find the level of hatred that people express about views that differ from theirs, and the violence of language towards others, disturbing.”

“I can understand the heat of an argument, but I find this age of accusation and the need to condemn irrational,” he added.

If you missed it, the 58-year-old English comic recently came out as gender fluid while announcing that she prefers using she/her pronouns.

Last year, the 55-year-old Harry Potter author came under fire when she made comments about gender, that were widely viewed as transphobic.

In a new interview, Eddie defended JK, while also saying that she doesn’t think the author is transphobic.

“I don’t think J.K. Rowling is transphobic,” Eddie shared with The Telegraph. “I think we need to look at the things she has written about in her blog. Women have been through such hell over history. Trans people have been invisible, too.”

Eddie continued: “I hate the idea we are fighting between ourselves, but it’s not going to be sorted with the wave of a wand. I don’t have all the answers. If people disagree with me, fine, but why are we going through hell on this?”

The 26-year-old King of Staten Island star responded to the Harry Potter author’s past transphobic comments during “Weekend Update” on Saturday Night Live on Saturday (October 10).

“I long for a few young years ago when the worst things she did were those Fantastic Beasts movies. No discrimination there, they harmed us all equally,” he joked on the show.

He defended his six Harry Potter tattoos, saying he “didn’t know that J.K. Rowling was going to go all Mel Gibson,.”

“I have a Game of Thrones tattoo and now I’m terrified [author] George R.R. Martin is going to be like, ‘Hey, if you enjoyed what I had to say about dragons and dire wolves, wait till you hear what I think about Puerto Ricans.’ It’s crazy times we live in! It’s not fair.”

“What’s wrong with her? She creates a seven-book fantasy series about all types of mythical creatures living in harmony with wizards and elves and the one thing she can’t wrap her head around is Laverne Cox? She’s a national treasure,” he continued.

Eddie Redmayne is speaking out about the backlash that “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling has received after she made anti-trans comments on social media.

The author has essentially been “canceled” by her fans this summer for the hurtful and harmful comments that she has made about the transgender community. Eddie previously spoke out to express that he supports the trans community and he disagrees with Jo‘s comments.

In a new interview with the Daily Mail, Eddie said that he was alarmed by the “vitriol” sent to Rowling, which he said was “absolutely disgusting.” He did note that he found the insults being sent to trans people on social media to be “equally disgusting.”

“Similarly, there continues to be a hideous torrent of abuse towards trans people online and out in the world that is devastating,” Eddie said.

Eddie played a transgender woman in the movie The Danish Girl and he received an Oscar nomination for his performance. He says he has many “trans friends and colleagues” who are “having their human rights challenged around the world and facing discrimination on a daily basis.”

After a six-month break due to the pandemic, Eddie is now back at work on the third Fantastic Beasts movie, which Rowling wrote.

JK Rowling has recently made numerous anti-trans statements and she’s now being defended by one of her former Harry Potter co-stars, Robbie Coltrane, who played Hagrid in all eight films.

“I don’t think what she said was offensive really. I don’t know why but there’s a whole Twitter generation of people who hang around waiting to be offended,” the 70-year-old actor told Radio Times. “They wouldn’t have won the war, would they? That’s me talking like a grumpy old man, but you just think, ‘Oh, get over yourself. Wise up, stand up straight and carry on.’”

He then added, “I don’t want to get involved in all of that because of all the hate mail and all that shit, which I don’t need at my time of life”.

Daniel Radcliffe is one of the stars of Harry Potter who condemned JK‘s statements.

Cynthia Nixon is opening up about JK Rowling‘s controversial comments about the transgender community in a recent interview.

The 54-year-old actor spoke to The Independent, revealing that her trans son was very hurt by the author’s comments.

“It was really painful for him because so much of his childhood was tied up with Harry Potter,” she shared, speaking of her now 23-year-old son, Seph.

Cynthia continued, “We’re a Harry Potter family. The books seem to be about championing people who are different, so for her to select this one group of people who are obviously different and sort of deny their existence, it’s just…it’s really baffling.”

“I know she feels like she’s standing up for feminism but I don’t get it.”

JK made headlines over the summer months for her comments about the trans community, first voicing her frustrations over an article which said that “gender non-binary persons menstruate.”
