Meghan McCain Apologizes for Aiding Donald Trump's Anti-Asian “Racist Rhetoric”

Meghan McCain is apologizing for her past comments about COVID-19.

The View co-host released a statement to her Twitter after being called out by John Oliver on his show, Last Week Tonight.

John noted that despite sharing a graphic that said “Stop Asian Hate” in response to the tragic shooting in Atlanta that left eight dead, Meghan had previously said she had “no problem” with Donald Trump referring to COVID-19 as the “China virus.”

“I think if the left wants to focus on P.C. labelling this virus, it is a great way to get Trump re-elected,” she said in the clip. “I don’t have a problem with people calling it whatever they want. It’s a deadly virus that did originate in Wuhan… I don’t have a problem with it.”

“Oh good! Meghan McCain doesn’t have a problem with it,” John said in the new episode. “Listen not to the scores of Asian Americans telling everyone that the term is dangerous and offensive. Instead, gather around and take the word of a wealthy white woman who’s dressed like she’s about to lay off 47 people over Zoom.”

Meghan McCain posted this week, ‘Stop Asian Hate,’ with three broken hearts emoji, which is a fine sentiment to throw up on Twitter after the fact. But there has to be an understanding that saying, ‘I don’t have a problem with calling it the China virus’ is very much giving space for hate to grow,” he continued.

Meghan wrote on Twitter, “I condemn the reprehensible violence and vitriol that has been targeted towards the Asian-American community. There is no doubt Donald Trump’s racist rhetoric fueled many of these attacks and I apologize for any past comments that aided that agenda.”

Meghan also recently faced backlash over disparaging comments she made about Dr. Anthony Fauci.

John Oliver Reveals the Only Thing That Surprised Him From Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's Interview

John Oliver was a guest on The Tonight Show this week where he spoke out about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s big interview with Oprah Winfrey.

He said the interview was “amazing,” while adding, “That is kind of what I felt like, sadly, her experience was going to be going in.” He grew up watching the royals “from a distance” in England.

He was then asked if anything shocked him, to which he responded, “The only thing that shocked me after was that Oprah, the next day, saying, ‘Harry wants to make clear it wasn’t Prince Philip being racist.’ Which made me think, ‘Really? Okay, that is actually surprising.’”

John Oliver is referring to the moment where Oprah revealed which 2 royals did not bring up Archie’s skin tone.

Adam Driver Confronts John Oliver: 'What the F--- Are You Doing?'

John Oliver admitted he spent 2020 “demanding that Adam Driver demolish me, crush my larynx, you unwieldy boulder” and Adam Driver finally got in on the joke on last night’s episode of Last Week Tonight on HBO.

“Listen to me, what the f*ck are you doing? This bit? This bit, this thing you’ve been doing that’s either sexual or violent,” Adam said to John in a FaceTime call. “This strange, strange bit that for some reason you’ve pulled me into. What is it? When you first started doing it, it was easy for me to shrug it off. But then it kept going on, and on, and on, and on. Stop talking. Do you realize, over this past year, what you’ve asked me to do to you?”

Adam continued, “You realize we’re strangers, right? I don’t know you. And now, random people on the internet stan us. I’m sick of people stopping me on the street and asking me if I’m going to punch a hole in you like a Marriage Story wall. And you know what? You should be ashamed of yourself, because you know this was inappropriate.” Watch the clip!

John Oliver 'Nearly Burst Into Tears' After Voting for First Time in America

Voting was a very emotional experience for John Oliver.

While chatting with Stephen Colbert, the 43-year-old Last Week Tonight host said he “nearly burst into tears” after voting for the first time as an American citizen.

“It was amazing … as an immigrant who got his U.S. citizenship in December of last year, I was waiting for that to feel real,” John said of voting. “You worry about your immigration status all the time. And even getting your passport doesn’t feel real because you haven’t tested it against a system.”

Then when he got to cast his vote for the first time, he was finally able to feel all the emotions.

“Standing in line (to vote) … I didn’t feel it. Giving my name and getting the ballot, I didn’t feel it. Scanning it into the machine and the machine saying ‘your vote has been counted,’ — I nearly burst into tears,” John continued. “That is the truth. My eyes got misty, and I thought, ‘I don’t know if I can cry in a voting station.’”

John was born in the United Kingdom, but became an American citizen back in December 2019.

Find out who also recently revealed that the 2020 Election is the first time they’ll be voting.

Here's Why A Connecticut Town Renamed Their Sewer Plant In Honor of John Oliver

The town of Danbury, Connecticut has responded to John Oliver‘s dig on their town in a very savage way.

Just last week on his talk show, the 43-year-old host was pointing out how jury selection is still very rigged in the United States and showcased two racially diverse towns in Connecticut to prove his point.

In the segment, John shared that he knew “exactly three things about Danbury. USA Today ranked it the second-best city to live in in 2015, it was once the center of the American hat industry and if you’re from there, you have a standing invite to come get a thrashing from John Oliver — children included — (expletive) you.”

After the segment aired, the Mayor of Danbury, Mark Boughton, took his last sentence to heart and actually renamed the town’s sewage plant in honor of John.

“We are going to rename it the John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant,” he said. “Why? Because it’s full of crap just like you, John.”
