The trailer for Jonathan Rhys Meyers‘ new movie Edge of the World has been released!

Based on a true story, the 43-year-old Irish actor plays Sir James Brooke, who defies the British Empire to rule a jungle kingdom in the colonial, historic thriller directed by Michael Haussman.

Here’s the full synopsis: “In 1839, Brooke flees Victorian England to explore Borneo. After a pirate attack, Brooke allies with rival princes to seize a rebel fort. To save prisoners from beheading, Brooke agrees to be crowned Rajah. James begs the Royal Navy for a steamship to fight pirates, but the British want his kingdom as a colony. Makota’s pirates massacre Brooke’s capital, leaving James half-dead. To save his people, he must shed Englishness and embrace the jungle: “All of it, the beauty and the blood.”

The film also stars Dominic Monaghan, Hannah New, Josie Ho, Atiqa Hasiholan, Ralph Ineson, Otto Farant, Samo Rafael, Bront Palarae, Shaheizy Sam, Yusyf Mahardika, Peter John, and Kahar Bin Jini.

Edge of the World will be released on digital and on-demand on June 4.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been formally charged with a DUI following his November arrest in 2020.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that the 43-year-old actor had been charged with the misdemeanor, US Weekly reports.

Jonathan is facing one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and was additionally charged with driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or more, documents report.

Prosecutors filed the case on December 30, just days ahead of 2021, and he is due in court on February 25.

Jonathan reportedly was involved in a solo minor car accident in Malibu, Calif., in November, and failed a field sobriety test at that time.

Bail at the time was set at $5,000 and he was released on November 9.

Jonathan has been to rehab a few times over the years.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers and John Malkovich are co-starring in a pandemic thriller titled The Survivalist and they already filmed the entire movie!

Here’s a synopsis, according to Deadline: A former FBI agent (Rhys Meyers) is forced to protect a young woman, who is immune to the disease, from a dangerous gang hunting her led by a psychopath who believes he’s going to use her to save the world (Malkovich).

The filming took place in the Tri-state area and wrapped up recently.

“We’re thrilled and honored to be working with screen legends John Malkovich and Jonathan Rhys Meyers on The Survivalist, an exhilarating, timely and action-packed feature film with stellar performances,” producers Jordan Yale Levine and Jordan Beckerman said.

We haven’t seen much of Jonathan Rhys Meyers but we did get some shirtless beach photos a few months ago!

Jonathan Rhys Meyers was arrested for a DUI on Sunday (November 8) after getting into a solo minor car accident in Malibu, Calif.

At around 5:00pm, the accident was reported and the 43-year-old actor reportedly failed a field sobriety test at that time. Us Weekly reports that arrest documents listed his bail as $5,000 and he was released on Monday (November 9).

This is not the first time Jonathan has had a run in with police with the last public account being his airplane incident two years ago. He publicly praised Mara for her handling of the incident a short time later. Jonathan has been to rehab a few times over the years.

We last saw Jonathan just a few weeks ago while he was enjoying a shirtless beach day.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers has joined the cast of a period biopic following the life of British explorer Sir James Brooke.

The 42-year-old actor will take the lead in the film, titled Rajah, according to THR.

The movie will chronicle James‘ life as he “escaped romantic scandal and the confines of Victorian society to explore the wildlife of 1840s Borneo.”

Over the course of his life he fought “pirates and the Sultan’s enemies to win a crown as Rajah of Sarawak, where he ruled a jungle kingdom larger than England.” He led a crusade against piracy, slavery and headhunting and was eventually knighted by Queen Victoria for his bravery.

James later “defied England when the British Empire tried to colonize Sarawak” and “in reprisal, Parliament tried him for murder and piracy himself.”

Josie Ho and Dominic Monaghan will also star in the indie flick.

A private plane that was allegedly carrying 5,000 cannabis plants, along with Jonathan Rhys Meyers and his wife Mara Lane, was grounded in the island nation St. Kitts.

The couple, along with Mara‘s mother, were flying with Coca-Cola bottling heir Alki David and billionaire Chase Ergen.

The Daily Mail reports that the private plane was filled with wall-to-wall cannabis, totaling at around $1.3 million in product. David was traveling to the island in the Caribbean to “develop legal cannabis businesses in the region.”

David and Ergen were both arrested at the airport when their negotiations with Prime Minister Timothy Harris broke down.

“Jonathan Rhys Meyers’s mother-in-law and wife were cavity searched. We left the airport after the search but were then arrested after trying to leave the island a few days later,” David told the Daily Mail.
