Justin Bieber is addressing a controversial artistic choice.
The “Peaches” superstar opened up about his choice to create the “MLK Interlude” in his newest No. 1 album Justice during a conversation on Clubhouse on Tuesday (March 30), which resulted in some social media backlash.
In a room from Bieber Nation co-founder Kristal Terrell, he was asked how he thought his music could play a role in social advocacy.
“Being Canadian…they didn’t teach us about Black history. It was just not a part of our education system. I think for me, coming from Canada and being uneducated and making insensitive jokes when I was a kid and being insensitive and being honestly just a part of the problem because I just didn’t know better. For me to have this platform to just share this raw moment of Martin Luther King in a time where he knew he was going to die for what he was standing up for,” he said, via Billboard.
He said he was willing to put up with “as much hate by putting that on the album,” and rejected the idea of being a “white savior” trying to solve injustices, saying his goal was to “amplify” the late activist’s “incredibly, touching speech.”
“I want to keep growing and learning about just all social injustices and what it looks like for me to be better, what it looks like for my friends to be better. And I know I have a long way to go. I love that when people are listening to my album, these conversations are coming up and they’re like, ‘Well, how is he going from Martin Luther King into a love song?’” he said.
“I’m not trying to make a connection between me and Martin Luther King. That’s why I never try to talk about social injustice or I didn’t want to be the one to talk about it because I just have so much more learning to do. But I have this man who was ready to die and what he believed to be true. If I’m not willing to face some sort of ridicule or judgment of people wondering my motives or whatever that is, for me, it was a no brainer.”
The tattoo came just one day after the 27-year-old music star debuted his own peach tattoo, which was done by tattoo artist Dr. Woo.
Hailey debuted the same tattoo on the inner side of her left arm in a photo shared to her Instagram Story.
Along with revealing the new ink, she kicked off the #PeachesMakeupChallenge on Instagram and TikTok, in which she created a peach-colored makeup look while his song played in the background.

It was announced on Sunday (March 28) that his new album Justicehad overtakenMorgan Wallen‘s Dangerous: The Double Album, which had spent 10 weeks in the No. 1 spot.
This makes Justin the first solo male to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart and the Billboard 200 albums chart simultaneously.
Justin joins BTS and Taylor Swift in having debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 at the same time, with Taylor actually managing to do it twice in her career.
The album moved 154,000 equivalent album units in its first week, toppling Morgan Wallen‘s Dangerous: The Double Album, which spent 10 weeks at No. 1. It marks the second-biggest week for an album in 2021.

The 27-year-old Justice superstar shared a photo of himself getting a new tattoo of a peach emoji in celebration of his new hit song “Peaches” on Saturday night (March 27).
Justin‘s mother Pattie Mallette also saw the post, and reacted in the comments section.
“Don’t you have enough yet? 😩” she amusingly commented.
In the music video for his song “Anyone,” Justin had all of his tattoos covered up with makeup and he shared the video of himself sitting shirtless in just his underwear while getting them all covered up.
