Katie Couric Talks About Becoming The First Woman To Host 'Jeopardy!'

Katie Couric will make history on television tonight, by becoming the first woman ever to host Jeopardy!

The 64-year-old newscaster will step into the podium to host the classic quiz show following executive producer Mike Richards and Ken Jennings before that, following the passing of the show’s longtime host Alex Trebek.

Speaking to CBS Boston about her guest host role, Katie says that her message to little girls watching is that “it’s cool to be smart.”

Katie also revealed that she was very nervous about her guest hosting duties: “The last thing I wanted to do was come here and mess up and embarrass the show.”

However, that changed fast: “The thing is, everyone here takes such good care of you and it was such a relief to know that they weren’t going to let me look stupid and they were going to have my back and help me out,” she said.

Katie also revealed how she studied the show in detail when she knew she was going to be guest hosting.

“I love the show, I loved Alex Trebek. I was so inspired by him, especially by his courage toward the end of his life,” she says. “It’s just such an American institution and the opportunity to play a small part in the continuation of this show was just something i didn’t want to pass up.”

Katie Couric Announced as 'Jeopardy!' Guest Host

Katie Couric is temporarily taking over as the host of Jeopardy.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Katie will serve as one of the first guest hosts after the final episodes featuring long-time emcee Alex Trebek finish airing this week.

Alex passed away in November after battling pancreatic cancer. He continued taping episodes after he announced his diagnosis in 2019, filming his final episode only 10 days before his death. Alex shared a message with fans about his future replacement in one of his final interviews.

Jeopardy‘s producers have stated that the show will feature guest-hosts until a permanent replacement has been chosen. Jeopardy champion Ken Jennings has also been booked to host episodes of the long-running trivia show. The LA Times says Katie and Sony Pictures Television, who produces Jeopardy, declined to comment on whether she would be interested in serving as Alex‘s long-term replacement.

In November, Ryan Reynolds opened up about his last conversation with Alexsee what he had to say.

Katie Couric Says She Was 'Shaken' & 'Uncomfortable' After This Denzel Washington Interview

Katie Couric is speaking out about the “uncomfortable” interview she had with Denzel Washington back in 2004.

A little backstory: Katie interviewed Denzel on Dateline back in 2004 to promote his film The Manchurian Candidate. During the interview, Katie asked if “Hollywood folks should stick to acting.”

Denzel then responded, “I don’t know what Hollywood folks are, first of all. Hollywood is a town that has some stars on the sidewalk. I don’t know anybody from there. So, I don’t – that’s like saying – calling you a ‘type’ of folks. I’m not a Hollywood folk. I don’t know who they are.”

“Are you one of those people that–” Katie said, attempting to rephrase the question.

Denzel then interrupted, “Ah, there you go. Am I one of those people? Hmmm, isn’t that interesting?” “Oh, stop, stop, stop,” Katie said.

“No, don’t stop. I heard what you just said. ‘Am I one of those people?’ No, I’m not,” Denzel said.

“No, are you an actor who would rather not —” Katie responded back. He then said, “No, I’m not that either. I’m a human being. My job is acting.”

Well, all these years later, Katie spoke about the interview on her recent “Everything Iconic With Danny Pellegrino” podcast appearance.

“I think he totally misconstrued a question I asked and kind of jumped all over me. It was so uncomfortable because he was doing it with Meryl Streep…” Katie said. “I don’t think I said anything wrong… I don’t know what happened.”

Katie continued, “I think he must have been having a really bad day because he later wrote a really big check to my colon cancer organization, which I thought was super sweet. I love him, I admire him so much. He’s one of my favorite actors, but I remember walking out and feeling really kind of shaken that he had kind of gone after me in a way that was completely, weirdly uncalled for.”

On that same podcast, Katie opened up about another subject everyone has been anxiously awaiting her opinion on.

Katie Couric Shares Thoughts on 'The Morning Show' & Jennifer Aniston's Performance

There have been rumors that Jennifer Aniston‘s character on the Apple TV+ series The Morning Show is based on The Today Show‘s Katie Couric… and now she’s sharing her thoughts on the show!

The plot of the series follows the male co-host of a morning show who is accused of sexual misconduct, similar to the way Matt Lauer was when he was a co-host on The Today Show.

Katie, who hosted that morning show with Lauer for many years, opened up about the TV series on the podcast Everything Iconic with Danny Pellegrino.

Katie said she had “so many thoughts” while watching the show. She added, “I thought some of it was really interesting. I think the long-term impact and the serious devastation that results from certain behaviors was quite well represented, or quite well conveyed in that.”

“I think Jennifer Aniston is great. … I wish they had made her more charismatic because I think you need a certain ebullience to pull off a show like that,” she said about the star’s performance.

Katie Couric Will Work from Home After Interacting with Coronavirus Patient on Saturday

Katie Couric is going to be working from home after her friend, who she saw this past weekend, tested positive for Coronavirus.

The journalist tweeted on Monday (March 9) about her friend Rick Cotton, the head of Port Authority in New York City.

Rick Cotton is an old friend of mine. In fact I just saw him on Saturday for the first time in a long time. Feel better Rick,” she wrote.

After Katie tweeted about her friend testing positive, fans expressed their concern that she might having contracted the virus too.

“OK people – thank you for your concern!! I have a few updates: So far I’ve talked to someone from @WHO who referred me to the @HealthNYGov which told me that it was not necessary to self-quarantine. This was also confirmed by my primary care physician,” Katie said. “My interaction was a 90-second conversation with an asymptomatic person and involved no physical contact. I am now quadruple checking with the @CDCgov. But overall, the people I spoke to said to continue using common sense and good hygiene practices and if I start having symptoms or not feeling well I should go to my primary care doctor immediately. Hopefully, this is helpful for anyone who deals with this in the future + I will keep you guys updated as soon as I have more info!”

Katie later added that a CDC official told her she’s very low-risk for getting Coronavirus.
