Keith Urban is opening up about the incident at the Sydney Opera House involving him and wife, Nicole Kidman.
The incident happened earlier this month where a man who was seated behind him and Nicole, swatted his program at the back of Nicole‘s head during a standing ovation.
The authorities were called about the situation and Keith has opened up about what went down.
He noted on Australia’s The Kyle & Jackie O Show that this was his own first time at the opera and was “sensitive to the etiquette.”
At the end of the performance, he recalled everyone cheering and then saw people begin to stand up, but when that happened, Nicole was “whacked” behind the head with one of the opera programs by another theater goer, who didn’t like them standing up.
“It was a bit of a pickle that I was in,” Keith shared. “Took a lot of restraint—I was pretty upset. I think I just looked at him. I said, ‘It’s a standing ovation!’ I didn’t know I’m not allowed to.”
Keith also noted that there are standards at the opera.
“At the same time, I get it. I get that there’s this thing going on where there’s a tradition or thing that says you don’t do that and I respect that,” he added. “But I was also going by a lot of other people who were standing.”
Keith is currently one of the judges for The Voice Australia.
Next up for Keith are the upcoming 2021 ACM Awards. See the full list of nominations here!
