Black-ish is coming to an end.
The nearly decade long-running comedy, which stars Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson, will end with its eighth season at ABC, the show’s creator Kenya Barris confirmed in a post on Friday (May 14).

#blackAF is coming back for a second season!
The comedy from creator Kenya Barris, starring Kenya and Rashida Jones, has been picked up for a second season, Netflix announced on Tuesday (June 23).
Here’s the show’s synopsis: “Loosely inspired by Barris‘ irreverent, highly flawed, unbelievably honest approach to parenting, relationships, race, and culture, #blackAF flips the script on what we’ve come to expect a family comedy series to be.”
It continues, “Pulling back the curtain, #blackAF uncovers the messy, unfiltered and often hilarious world of what it means to be a ‘new money’ black family trying to get it right in a modern world where ‘right’ is no longer a fixed concept.”
Kenya plays a heightened version of himself with Rashida starring as his wife. They’re children are played by Genneya Walton, Iman Benson, Scarlet Spencer, Justin Claiborne, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, and Richard Gardenhire Jr.
#blackAF season one is available for streaming on Netflix now.
Pharrell Williams is developing a musical based on Juneteenth, Deadline reports.
The talented musician is teaming up with black-ish creator Kenya Barris on the project to develop it for Netflix.
The site reports that the project is in “the early stages of working up a plan” and “details about storyline are under wraps.”
Pharrell will be producing the pic with partner Mimi Valdes alongside Kenya, who will produce through his production company Khalabo Ink Society.
Earlier this week, Pharrell made a visit to his homestate of Virginia where he joined Governor Ralph Northam to announce that June 19 will be officially recognized as Juneteenth in the state.
“This is our chance to lead by example. This is our chance to lead, to truly embrace the importance of Juneteenth and treat it as a celebration of freedom that black people deserve…this is about proper recognition,” he shared in his speech.
An old, yet sadly timely episode of Black-ish is airing again.
Kenya Barris, the show’s creator, revealed that the 2016 episode “Hope,” which centers around police brutality, was re-airing on Tuesday night (June 2) amid protests nationwide against systemic racism and police brutality after the murder of George Floyd.

“It’s been 1,562 days since we first shared that episode with the world and it breaks my heart on so many levels that this episode feels just as timely as it did then and eerily prescient to what’s happening to black people in this country today,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Black rights are human rights, and this continued injustice impacts all of us. So while we hope these episodes can bring your families together in watching and learning, the real hope is that it inspires you to join us in demanding liberty and justice for all – once and for all.”
Here’s a plot summary: “‘Hope’ centers on the Johnson family reacting to a court case involving a black teenager who was allegedly a victim of police violence. Dre (Anthony Anderson) and Bow (Tracee Ellis Ross) are then at odds about how to discuss the situation with their kids when they start asking questions about it. While one parent wants to discuss the tarnished legal system and how it treats black people, the other wants to take a more hopeful approach.”

Rashida Jones and Kenya Barris are teaming up for new Netflix family comedy series titled Black Excellence!
The 43-year-old TAG actress and the 44-year-old writer and Black-ish creator will both star in and executive produce the single-camera comedy.
According to the streaming service, the series is inspired by “Barris‘ irreverent, highly flawed, unbelievably honest approach to parenting, relationships, race and culture,” seeking to “pull back the curtain and reboot the family sitcom in a way viewers have never seen before.”
The number of episodes and the premiere date have not yet been announced.
