Kris Humphries on Kim Kardashian Marriage: 'Our Actual Relationship Was 100% Real'

Kris Humphries is telling his side of the story after everything went down with his ex wife Kim Kardashian.

The 34-year-old NBA player wrote an op-ed for The Players Tribune where he spoke about wanting to be known as a great basketball player.

“I met a girl who happened to be really famous, and I got married, and.…. Damn,” Kris wrote. “Look, I should have known what I was getting into. I was definitely naive about how much my life was going to change. But the one thing that really bothers me is whenever people say that my marriage was fake.”

Kris continued, “There’s definitely a lot about that world that is not entirely real. But our actual relationship was 100% real. When it was clear that it wasn’t working … what can I say? It sucked. It’s never easy to go through the embarrassment of something like that — with your friends, with your family…. But when it plays out so publicly, in front of the world, it’s a whole other level. It was brutal.”

“I didn’t know how to handle it, because I never thought I was going to be famous in that way. I remember having this moment when I was getting booed so hard in Philly, and I thought to myself, ‘Why exactly are they booing me, though? Is it just because I’m That Guy from TV? Do they think I was trying to be famous? Is it because they think I disrespected the game of basketball?’” Kris added.

Kris also wrote, “My whole life, I was a really confident, happy person. But nothing can prepare you for the feeling of walking down the street, or being anywhere, really — the grocery store, the gas station — and having people literally running up on you and trying to film you, trying to grab you, saying God knows what. That’s not natural. That’s not supposed to be real life.”

If you don’t know, Kim and Kris married in August of 2011. They split up 72 days later.

Kim Kardashian Describes Her Feelings Leading Up to Kris Humphries Wedding

Kim Kardashian opened up to THR about her 72-day marriage to NBA player Kris Humphries back in 2011.

The 36-year-old reality star spoke about filming the wedding, saying, “There was all this attention on the wedding, and I thought maybe it was just the pressure of the show giving me this anxiety. My friends told me I just had cold feet, but even the producers said, ‘You don’t seem happy. You don’t have to go through with this.’”

Kim continued, “The night before, my mom pulled me aside, off camera, and was like, ‘This isn’t it for you. Why don’t you go away and I’ll handle it?’ I felt like, if I pulled out now, everyone’s going to think I just did it for the show. Then afterwards, people were saying, ‘You have to stay married for a year,’ but I physically couldn’t do it. When I made the decision [to divorce], everyone said it was made up for the show. Everyone really wanted to take me down.”

“Think about this realistically: If it was for the show don’t you think we would have found someone that signed off? Someone OK with getting married and getting divorced two months later? If it’s for a show don’t you think you’d want as little legal trouble as possible? This was real emotions, real feelings. People f*ck up,” Kim added.
