Lena Headey To Star & Produce 'Beacon 23' TV Adaptation

Lena Headey will be back on the small screen again.

The former Game of Thrones star is returning to television in AMC’s Beacon 23, TVLine is reporting.

The series is based on Hugh Howey’s 2015 sci-fi novel of the same name and follows two people — Aster and Halan — whose fates become entangled after they find themselves trapped together at the end of the known universe.

When Aster mysteriously finds her way to Halan, a lonely beacon keeper, on his lighthouse in the darkest recesses of space, a tense battle of wills unfolds as Halan questions whether Aster is friend or foe. Per the character description, Aster’s “ability to disguise her agenda and motives could make her a formidable opponent” for her new companion.

Lena will star as Aster, and also executive produce the show alongside Zak Penn, who will be showrunner.

“Lena Headey was a wonderful, versatile actress before she gave one of the defining performances in television history. So, as they say, ‘no pressure,’” Zak said in a statement. “I’m thankful to all the people making this show possible, they just keep delivering beyond my expectations.”

Just recently, Lena reunited with one of her Game of Thrones co-stars for a special project.

“Hi!! Some backstory: a few months ago, while I was on tour, Lena Headey reached out about making a video for Miracle. Maisie Williams quickly joined (they had both met on the set of Game of Thrones),” Madeon explains in the video’s comments section on YouTube.

“Her vision was so clear, it was very different from the way I’ve illustrated the universe of ‘Good Faith’ up to that point but that’s what made the idea so fascinating, it’s a different interpretation. They focused on the drama of the music and made a beautiful video. I’m very honored that my music inspired this!”

Rita Ora, Lena Headey, & Michael Caine Will Star in Contemporary 'Oliver Twist' Film

Rita Ora, Lena Headey, and Michael Caine are teaming up for the new movie Twist!

The 28-year-old “Ritual” singer, the 46-year-old Game of Thrones actress, and the 86-year-old The Dark Knight Rises actor have all signed on for the UK film, a contemporary update of the Charles Dickens classic “Oliver Twist,” Deadline reports.

Little Britain‘s David Walliams, Legends of Tomorrow‘s Franz Drameh, and Daybreak‘s Sophie Simnett will also star, along with with newcomer Raff Law (son of Jude Law) in the title role.

Here’s the synopsis: “Oliver is reinvented as a streetwise artist living on the streets of day London. A chance encounter with a gang of grifters led by the charismatic Dodge (Rita Ora) sees Twist (Law) caught up in a high stakes heist to steal a priceless painting for master thief, Fagin (Caine), and his psychopathic business partner, Sikes (Headey).”

Franz will play Batesey, Sophie will play Red, and David will play Losberne. Martin Owen will direct.

Production begins this autumn.

Twist will be available on Comcast-owned Euro broadcaster Sky’s UK movie platform Sky Cinema. That same day, there will be a limited theatrical release in the market via Altitude.

Michael Caine said, “Fagin is such an infamous character, it’s going to be great fun playing him. I’m really looking forward to working with Lena, Raff and the rest of the cast in London when we start shooting.”

Lena Headey added, “I couldn’t be more excited to take on the iconic character of Sikes from ‘Oliver Twist.’ Flipping roles without apology or character softening is a brilliant way to breathe new life into established materials and bring it to new audiences.”

Raff chimed in, “I’m excited to play such a well-loved literary character, and I’m looking forward to working with Martin Owen to bring to life his new take on the character in modern-day London.”
