Lupita Nyong’o is back on the red carpet after being away for the past year during the pandemic.

The Oscar-winning actress stepped out to attend the premiere of the movie Queen of Glory during the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival on Tuesday (June 15) at Pier 76 in New York City.

Queen of Glory is the feature-film directorial debut of Nana Mensah, who also wrote and stars in the movie.

Here is the synopsis: “Brainy scientist Sarah, a doctoral student at Columbia University, is weeks away from following her very married boyfriend to Ohio when her mother dies suddenly, leaving Sarah the owner of a small but beloved Christian bookstore in the Bronx. Tasked with planning a culturally respectful funeral befitting the family matriarch, Sarah must juggle the expectations of her loving yet demanding family while navigating the reappearance of her estranged father all while grappling with what to do with the bookstore. Aided by an only-in-New York ensemble of Eastern European neighbors, feisty African aunties and a no-nonsense ex-con co-worker, Sarah faces her new responsibilities while figuring out how to remain true to herself.”

Lupita Nyong’o is talking Black Panther 2.

In a new interview, the 38-year-old Oscar winner shared an update on the sequel for her mega-hit Marvel movie, while admitting that she’s still processing co-star Chadwick Boseman‘s death.

“People will ask me, ‘Are you excited to go back?’ Excitement isn’t the word. I feel like I’m in a very pensive and meditative state when it comes to Black Panther 2. His passing is still extremely raw for me,” Lupita shared with Yahoo! Movies. “And I can’t even begin to imagine what it will be like to step on set and not have him there.”

Lupita then talked about how director Ryan Coogler is “reshaping” the new movie without Chadwick, who played the Black Panther.

“But at the same time we have a leader in Ryan, who feels very much like we do, who feels the loss in a very, very real way as well. And his idea, the way which he has reshaped the second movie is so respectful of the loss we’ve all experienced as a cast and as a world,” Lupita explained. So it feels spiritually and emotionally correct to do this. And hopefully, what I do look forward to, is getting back together and honoring what he started with us and holding his light through it. Because he left us a lot of light that we’re still going to be bathing in. I know that for sure.”

The 38-year-old actress spoke with Ellen DeGeneres on Tuesday (April 6) and shared it is “still so hard for me to come to terms with his passing.”

She added that it was Chadwick‘s “leadership” that she would miss most while filming future installments of the franchise.

“He led the movie with such compassion and just presence. When Chadwick came on set he was present, and he brought his entire being to that movie. He was just so humble as well,” Lupita said. “That leadership will be missed. And he was my friend, so it’s hard to think of him in the past tense.”

She continued, “I do know for certain that he would want us to do this. I feel that what [director] Ryan Coogler has planned very much honors him and his legacy. So I feel good about going back.”

Chadwick died of colon cancer in August 2020 after a private health battle. Ryan Coogler later confirmed that he would not be recast in the upcoming movie Black Panther 2.

Lupita also opened up about Chadwick‘s passing in an interview on Good Morning America.

The Academy Award winners will star in the Apple TV+ series Lady in the Lake, based on a novel by Laura Lippman, THR reported Wednesday (March 10).

It also marks Natalie‘s first regular role on television, and Lupita‘s first American series, who had previously been attached to Americanah before it was scrapped at HBO Max.

Apple has already given a straight-to-series order to the upcoming project.

Here’s a plot summary: “Lady in the Lake is set in Baltimore in the 1960s, where an unsolved murder pushes housewife and mother Maddie Schwartz (Portman) to reinvent herself as an investigative reporter. Her new calling puts her on a collision course with Cleo Sherwood (Nyong’o), who juggles motherhood, several jobs and a commitment to the city’s Black progressive agenda.”

Natalie is currently working on Thor: Love and Thunder. Another star of the Marvel movie’s character was just revealed!

Lupita Nyong’o is opening up about the future of Black Panther without the late Chadwick Boseman as part of the cast.

“It’s gonna be different, of course, without our king to go back into that world,” the 38-year-old actress shared in a virtual interview on Good Morning America this week.

However, she’s hopeful as director Ryan Coogler has some exciting things planned for the sequel.

“I know that all of us are dedicated to carrying on his legacy in this new Black Panther,” she added. “Ryan Coogler has some really, really exciting ideas that I look forward to bringing to life with the rest of the family.”

Earlier this year, Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed that Chadwick‘s role of T’Challa would not be recast and the film would actually focus on the world of Wakanda instead.

“So much of the comics and that first movie is the world of Wakanda. Wakanda is a place to further explore with characters and different subcultures. This was always and initially the primary focus of the next story,” he shared.

Lupita Nyong’o and Jessica Chastain‘s upcoming movie together, The 355, has been moved back on the release schedule.

Variety is reporting that the female-led heist thriller, will now be opening in 2022, versus the January 2021 release it had planned.

Here’s The 355 plot summary: When a top-secret weapon falls into mercenary hands, a wild card CIA agent joins forces with three international agents on a lethal mission to retrieve it, while staying a step ahead of a mysterious woman who’s tracking their every move.

The movie will also star Diane Kruger, Penelope Cruz, Fan Bingbing, Edgar Ramirez and Sebastian Stan, with Simon Kinberg directing.

Universal Studios has also delayed a few other of their movies for release, including Marry Me with Jennifer Lopez, as the number of cases of coronavirus keeps rising in the United States.

Lupita Nyong’o is honoring the memory of the late Chadwick Boseman.

The Black Panther actress paid tribute to her co-star, who sadly died after a private battle with cancer on August 28, in an emotional post on Instagram on Tuesday (September 8).

“I write these words from a place of hopelessness, to honor a man who had great hope. I am struggling to think and speak about my friend, Chadwick Boseman, in the past tense. It doesn’t make sense. The news of his passing is a punch to my gut every morning. I am aware that we are all mortal, but you come across some people in life that possess an immortal energy, that seem like they have existed before, that are exactly where they are supposed to always be – here! …that seem ageless…Chadwick was one of those people,” she wrote.

“Chadwick was a man who made the most of his time, and somehow also managed to take his time. I didn’t know him for long, but he had a profound effect on me in the time that I did. When we came together to make Black Panther, I remember being struck by his quiet, powerful presence. He had no airs about him, but there was a higher frequency that he seemed to operate from. You got the sense that he was fully present and also somehow fully aware of things in the distant future. As a result, I noticed that Chadwick never seemed rushed! He commanded his time with ease,” she continued.

“And he put in the work with all of us. He showed up to every rehearsal and training and shoot day with his game face on. He was absorbent. Agile. He set the bar high by working with a generosity of spirit, creating an ego-free environment by sheer example, and he always had a warm gaze and a strong embrace to share. His large hands would descend on my shoulders and give them a squeeze that relieved me of the tensions I did not realize I was holding. Chadwick‘s hands were strong enough to carry the weight of the film and free enough to clasp mine when I needed it,” she also wrote.

“He cared so deeply about humanity, about Black people, about his people. He activated our pride. By pushing through and working with such high purpose in the films he chose to commit to, Chadwick has made the infinite his home.”
