The Second 'Downton Abbey' Movie Has a New Release Date

A second Downton Abbey movie is currently in the works and Focus Features has announced a new release date for the film.

The movie was previously dated for a Christmas 2021 release, but now it has been pushed back to 2022.

All of the original principal cast members have returned for the next movie and new cast additions include Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West.

Maggie Smith Makes Surprising Comment About 'Harry Potter' & 'Downton Abbey' Roles

Maggie Smith doesn’t feel that her roles in Harry Potter or Downton Abbey were “satisfying.”

The 84-year-old actress played Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter films and Violet Crawley in the Downton Abbey show and movie.

“I am deeply grateful for the work in Potter and indeed Downton, but it wasn’t what you’d call satisfying,” Maggie said in a new interview with ES Magazine, according to The Guardian.

“I didn’t really feel I was acting in those things,” she added.

Downton Abbey is teasing more of the highly anticipated film!

The Michael Engler-directed movie hits theaters on September 20, and released a new “Sneak Peek Featurette” on Tuesday (August 20).

Here’s a plot summary: this fall, the worldwide phenomenon Downton Abbey becomes a grand motion picture event, as the beloved Crawleys and their intrepid staff prepare for the most important moment of their lives. A royal visit from the King and Queen of England will unleash scandal, romance and intrigue that will leave the future of Downton hanging in the balance.

The movie was written by series creator Julian Fellowes and stars the original cast.

'Downton Abbey' Movie Begins Filming - First Set Photos!

The Downton Abbey film has started filming and we have the first batch of photos from the set!

The cast – including returning stars Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, and Laura Carmichael, as well as newcomer Imelda Staunton – were seen on Tuesday (September 25) in Bath, England.

They were in their period-piece attire to film a new scene for the movie.

If you don’t know, Maggie and Imelda previously starred in the Harry Potter films together with Maggie as Professor McGonagall and Imelda as Dolores Umbridge.

The movie will be released on September 20, 2019 and the plot is not yet known. Stay tuned as more information is revealed!
