“We’ve written a lot of songs together and for each other. But this is kind of the first time we’ve stepped out in this way,” Ryan said.

“Chasing After You” is the couple’s first duet together, released on Friday (February 12).

“It really reminded me of Ryan and my story, getting together, when we first met,” Maren added.

The two first met as songwriters back in 2013, and wrote the song “Last Turn Home” in their first writing session.

“It’s like, ‘Hey, Tim McGraw recorded this song, we should probably keep writing together,” Maren explained.

Maren is really good. That was it. I mean, I was always just in awe with the way she could sing and the way that she could write, like, just different songs than anybody else. So that, I mean, that’s intimidating and special at the same time,” Ryan explained.

Ryan proposed to Maren in 2017 in a rowboat at his family’s lake house in Michigan.

“I was being a nightmare that weekend. I wanted to be engaged. I also was like, ‘Well, it’s Fourth of July weekend. If he doesn’t propose to me this week, then he probably never will,” she laughingly said.

“I had this ring in my pocket for like a month. It was in my jeans. Like, that’s some country stuff right there,” Ryan added.

“And then Ryan‘s like, ‘Oh, I think I forgot your cigarettes.’ And I literally, this is what I said before I was proposed to. I said, ‘Then why the hell are we out here?’ And I look back, and he’s on one knee…with a ring,” Maren said.

They were married in 2018 and last March, their son Hayes was born, and Maren endured postpartum depression afterward.

“It was sort of like, how do I help her without agreeing with her? I’m not gonna go do that. I’m not– I mean, I’ll go sleep in this other room if you want me to, but we never even did that…it was just stickin’ around and letting her move past that moment,” Ryan said.

“I honestly, I watched my interview with you [CBS This Morning] back in August, and I was still in it when I was talking to you, even if it had lightened, the fog, at that point. I just look at how different of a woman you were talking to just, you know, six months ago. So it is crazy how it takes a while for it to lift. It’s not overnight,” Maren reflected.

The two also talked about working on new music.

“And as much as I miss being on stage, this is the only time I’ll probably ever have, you know, until I retire that I have this time to myself with my family, with my creativity, with my songs. So I’m trying to really just not take it for granted,” Maren said.

“I love that you think you’re gonna retire. That’s.. that’s never gonna happen,” Ryan joked.

“Yeah, probably not,” Maren said.

Maren Morris, Mickey Guyton & Kelsea Ballerini Call Out Morgan Wallen Over Viral N-Word Video Controversy

Maren Morris, Mickey Guyton and Kelsea Ballerini are just three of the top country stars speaking out after Morgan Wallen was caught saying the N-word in a video.

The three female artists called out Morgan, who just recently won two awards at the CMA Awards and iHeartRadio Music Awards.

If you didn’t see, in the video that surfaced, Morgan is overheard using the N-word to describe one of his drunk friends after they arrive back at his Nashville house after a night out.

“The hate runs deep. Smfh,” Mickey, who is a notable Black country artist, tweeted after the video went viral. “This is not his first time using that ‘unacceptable’ racial slur and we all known that. So what exactly are y’all going to do about it? Crickets won’t work this time. How many passes will you continue to give? Asking for a friend. No one deserves to be canceled [but] this is unacceptable.”

Maren and Kelsea also called out Morgan‘s actions, and agreed with fans that if a female artist had done that, she would’ve been dropped and outcasted from the country community almost immediately.

Since the video went viral, Morgan has been dropped from his record label and iHeartRadio has pulled all of his music from their stations across the country.

Maren Morris & JP Saxe Team Up for 'Line By Line' - Read Lyrics & Watch the Video!

JP Saxe and Maren Morris teamed up on the new song “Line By Line” and you can watch the music video right here!

The video finds the two music stars serenading each other in a variety of settings, including in a car and on a bed in the middle of an ocean.

“I have always loved being contemplative of the artist vs. muse relationship in songs,” Maren said in a statement. “‘Line by Line’ acts as a promise that I’ll never be done writing about my muse in this life because he can’t be summed up in one song. Writing that day with JP was the most fluid, inspiring session. He’s a lyrical faucet. He threw out the line ‘immortalizing my sincerity’ and it blew my mind. I think all in all, we wrote the whole song in an hour and immediately recorded it.”

JP added, “My first thought about this song is that it’s surreal I get to be sharing it with one of my favorite artists ever. Regarding what it’s about…as songwriters, we spend a lot of our lives trying to bottle up a feeling into a song, and often, the biggest feelings, the best ones… the complicated, detailed, messy, incredible ones… just aren’t going to fit. ‘Line by Line’ is our recognition of that… of how one song just isn’t enough to capture it all, but how we’re just going to keep writing, futilely and lovingly, anyway.”

Both Maren and JP are nominated for awards at the 2021 Grammys, which will take place on March 14.

You can download the song now on iTunes or watch the music video below from YouTube.

Maren Morris Calls Out Country Wives for Supporting Trump Amid the Capitol Riots

Maren Morris is calling out the wives of country singers who have been supporting President Trump amid the Capitol riots.

The 30-year-old singer took to Twitter last week to share her thoughts after the events of January 6 took place.

“Today is gonna be hard to shake. Something my WW2 fighting Paw-Paw never told me about, something my parents never had to go through… thinking about how I will tell my son about this one day,” Maren said.

Fellow country singer Mickey Guyton tweeted, “I am completely disgusted. Are these boys still backing the blue? Asking for a friend.”

Maren responded to Mickey and said, “And how do some singer’s wives conveniently not know the difference between marching for racial injustice and Nazis breaching our Capitol because their guy didn’t win?”

Mickey replied by saying, “I know exactly who you’re talking about.”

Maren Morris Says 'We Should Be Outraged' if Indoor CMAs Contributed to Charley Pride's Death

Maren Morris is speaking out following the death of country music legend Charley Pride, who died from coronavirus complications just one month after attending the 2020 CMA Awards in Nashville.

The awards show was held indoors at the Music City Center and an audience was present, unlike most awards shows happening in the pandemic.

“I don’t want to jump to conclusions because no family statement has been made, but if this was a result of the CMAs being indoors, we should all be outraged. Rest in power, Charley,” Maren tweeted.

She added, “F–k this f–king year.”

Someone replied to Maren and said, “Coming from an artist that also attended the indoor event… 🤦🏻‍♀️.”

Maren replied to that tweet and said, “hence ‘WE’ should be outraged.”

Maren Morris Claps Back at Critics Who Claim She's Not Country Enough After Her CMA Wins

Maren Morris‘s critics are probably eating their own words right now.

The 29-year-old musician has long been in the middle of an argument with some fans on if she was truly a country artist or not.

Maren won three awards at the 2020 CMA Awards this week, including Female Vocalist of the Year and put the argument of if she was country to rest.

“I still can get hurt when people claim I’m ‘not country’,” Maren wrote in a tweet following her mega wins at the show.

While she can still get hurt over critics’ opinions on her genre, Maren added that “when I stood there accepting @cma Song of the Year, I realized it is much harder to forge your own path & sound than attempt to be a knock off of someone who’s already pioneered the genre. Thank you for accepting me.”

Maren also picked up the Single of the Year and Song of the Year for “The Bones”.
