Maren Morris is a winner!

The 30-year-old singer won the award for Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2020 CMA Awards. This is her first time winning the award.

“I love you so much, all the women in this category,” Maren said in her acceptance speech. “Thank you so much to my team. I have a lot of people to thank, and they’re the typical ones that lift me up and made this dream come true with me. But there are some things in my mind that I want to give recognition to. I’m just a fan of their music, and they’re as country as it gets. I just want them all to know how much we love them back, and just check out their music after this.”

Maren then went on to dedicate her win to the Black women in country music, giving a special shout-out to Linda Martell, Yola, Mickey Guyton, Rissi Palmer, Brittney Spencer, and Rihannon Giddens.

“There are so many amazing Black women that pioneered and continue to pioneer this genre, and I know they’re going to come after me,” Maren continued. “They’ve come before me, but you have made this genre so, so beautiful. I hope you know that we see you. Thank you for making me so inspired as a singer in this genre.

“This has been the most magical night,” Maren concluded. “I get to go see my baby after this. Thank you country music. This means the world. Thank you!”

Earlier in the night, Maren sparkled in plunging dress while performing “The Bones.”

Maren also won the first two awards of the night – Single of the Year and Song of the Year – for her hit song “The Bones.”

Maren Morris Debuts Protest Song Video For 'Better Than We Found It', Featuring Her Son Hayes

Maren Morris holds onto her son, Hayes Hurd, in her brand new music video for “Better Than We Found It”.

The video features spotlights on Nashville locals, who have experienced discrimination, harassment, and police brutality. Some of the faces that are more recognizable are Mariachi singer Gustavo Flores, and the family members of Daniel Hambrick, a black man who was killed by a Nashville police officer in 2018.

“I wanted to write something to address exactly how I feel right now, and this came together pretty quickly,” Maren shared about the important song off her new album.

She adds that it is “a protest song. It’s the most American thing to protest and protest songs have been so embedded in American culture: Bob Dylan, Nina Simone. I think the world right now is sort of in a perpetual mourning period and I wanted to have a song that had weight but also had hope. I still have hope for this country and for the future of it, and as a new mother I wanted to promise my son that I’m going to do everything in my power to leave this world better than the one I came into and the one I see right now.”

A portion of proceeds from “Better Than We Found It” will benefit the Black Women’s Health Imperative, a nonprofit that aims to protect and advance the health and wellness of black women and girls.

Maren Morris Hopes Baby Hayes Stays Up To Watch Her ACM Awards 2020 Performance

Maren Morris steps out in a cute dress for the virtual radio row events ahead of the 2020 ACM Awards at Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center on Tuesday (September 15) in Nashville, Tenn.

This marks the 29-year-old singer’s first appearance since welcoming her first child, Hayes, with husband Ryan Hurd earlier in the year.

During her appearance at the event, Maren hoped that Hayes would stay up late to watch her performance for the 2020 ACM Awards.

“I don’t know what time in the show I am, but he can stay up a little late to watch Mom,” Maren says. “I don’t think it’s quite registered [to him] that the people in the TV are real.”

She also spoke about her nominations, including Album of the Year.

“This is, in a lot of ways, the last remaining piece of art that I will make with him [producer Busbee, who passed away last year], so if it received that honor tomorrow, that would be amazing,” she says.

“I’ll always treasure those years and albums that I had with Busbee. He was such a champion of my sound forming in that beginning time that we had together.”

Tune into watch Maren perform on Wednesday night, September 16, at 8/7c on CBS.

Maren Morris & Ryan Hurd Talk Welcoming a Baby During Pandemic

Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd are opening up about parenthood!

The 30-year-old country singer and her husband revealed what it was like welcoming their son Hayes on March 23, right at the beginning of the pandemic.

“It was really weird and eerie, it was so quiet,” Maren shared on The Bobby Bones Show.

“The silver lining [of the coronavirus] is getting to spend every single moment of this year with our son, who is never going to be this small again,” Ryan added. “I try to really soak that time up, because it’s not time I would have had otherwise.”

Maren went on to detail her “grueling” labor.

I had a really grueling delivery at the end and it’s like 30 hours of labor, C-section at the very end,” Maren explained. “It’s just about getting him out safely. The recovery was super hard, not being able to work out, having my tour rescheduled, it was a lot mentally and physically.”

Despite the rough labor, Maren is loving being Hayes‘ mom.

“He’s great,” Maren shared. “We really couldn’t have asked for a more magical human to be brought into our lives during this crazy time and he’s been a good distraction from not being able to tour.”

If you missed it, Maren made a big change to her Instagram.
