The 2021 Oscars is always one of the biggest fashion events of the year and one of the trends that JustJared spotted has been statement sleeves!

Presenter Regina King opted for structured, sparkly sleeves on her gown, while Marlee Matlin chose a dramatic black gown with split sleeves.

Angela Bassett looked gorgeous in a puff sleeve gown and Best Makeup and Hairstyling nominee Eryn Krueger Mekash‘s lacy black sleeves featured some fun cut outs.

The deaf and hearing impaired community aren’t thrilled with how the Academy handled Marlee Matlin‘s presenting during the 2021 Oscars.

Marlee presented two awards at the ceremony tonight, Best Documentary Short Subject and Best Documentary Feature.

During her moment in the program, while signing, the camera panned away from her and only featured a voiceover of her interpreter.

The Deaf community was quick to call out how that moment was handled.

“It’s odd to have Marlee Matlin present an award but then not show her on screen as her interpreter does all the voiceovers,” one Oscar viewer shared on Twitter about the moment that would’ve been great for the community.

Another added, “I feel like if Marlee Matlin is signing, she should at least be on split screen. Also WHY is there never an interpreter shown on the broadcast? We don’t all have access to captions.”

However, many did see how the camera stayed back on Marlee for the second award.

Marlee Matlin sparkles on the red carpet in a gorgeous black gown at the 2021 Academy Awards on Sunday (April 25) at Union Station in Los Angeles.

The 55-year-old actress turned heads in her Vivienne Westwood look, which featured split sleeves and gave many fans Morticia Addams vibes.

Marlee completed her look with a pair of Sophia Webster black velvet platforms with a crystal heel.

The Oscars announced that Marlee, who became the youngest winner of the Best Actress Oscar in 1986 with Children of a Lesser God, will be part of the official “cast” of presenters.

She’ll join others like Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford, Halle Berry, and Zendaya on the stage tonight.

The new movie CODA has set a new Sundance Film Festival record for the biggest sale of all time!

The coming-of-age drama, starring rising actress Emilia Jones, has sold to Apple for $25 million, according to Deadline.

The previous biggest sale out of Sundance happened last year when the movie Palm Springs sold to Hulu and Neon for $22.5 million. That film is expected to get some awards attention at the Golden Globes next week.

CODA premiered on the opening night of Sundance and it received universal acclaim from both critics and audiences. The title’s acronym stands for Child of Deaf Adults and the film “centers on Ruby (Jones), the only hearing person in her deaf family. When the family’s fishing business is threatened, she finds herself torn between pursuing her love of music and her fear of abandoning her parents.”

The movie was written and directed by Siân Heder, who previously worked on TV shows like Orange is the New Black and GLOW. She also wrote directed the Netflix film Tallulah.

Emilia is best known for her work in the Netflix series Locke & Key. She stars alongside Eugenio Derbez and Marlee Matlin in Coda.

The 39-year-old actor was also joined by his co-star Lauren Ridloff and other cast mates Anthony Edwards, Kecia Lewis, Julee Cerda, Treshelle Edmond, and John McGinty.

The play, which challenges long held misconceptions about Deaf culture and the essence of communication, won the 1980 Tony Award for Best Play.

Marlee won the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in the film version of Children of a Lesser God at the 59th Annual Academy Awards in 1987. Nyle is making his Broadway debut as a co-producer on the production.

Priyanka Chopra was joined by Marlee Matlin while filming some upcoming scenes for ABC’s Quantico!

The 35-year-old Indian actress was spotted shooting on Wednesday (January 10) in New York City.

She took to Instagram to share a photo of herself and Marlee, 52, striking a pose in their matching orange jumpsuits at sunset.

“Looking forward to today’s shoot with u @themarleematlin .. just us.. Golden girls.. @abcquantico @mseitzman #Quantico3,” Priyanka captioned it.

Priyanka was also seen out and about on Thursday as she took a break from filming, sporting a dark blue trench coat, striped top, black leather pants, and black boots.

Season three of Quantico premieres on April 26.
