Marvel In Talks With Bassam Tariq To Direct Mahershala Ali in 'Blade' Movie

Bassam Tariq is circling the director’s chair for Marvel‘s upcoming Blade movie, according to reports.

The Mogul Mowgli helmer was the top director who were considered for the movie, according to Deadline.

The site reports that Marvel boss “[Kevin] Feige, [Mahershala] Ali and studio execs have been meeting with dozen of candidates going all the way back to the fall, at one point considering writer-director options before ultimately separating the two and tapping [Stacy] Osei-Kuffour to pen the script.”

News of the new incarnation of Blade were revealed during the San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, and it was revealed that Mahershala pitched the entire idea to Marvel.

Wesley Snipes first played the half-vampire superhero in a trio of movies, starting in 1998 and ending in 2004.

Marvel Boss Reveals Julia Louis-Dreyfus Will Return For More Marvel Projects

Julia Louis-Dreyfus made quite an impression when she popped up in Disney+’s Marvel series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

The 60-year-old actress starred as Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine, a major person of interest in the Marvel universe who first enlists the services of the disgraced Captain America, John Walker (Wyatt Russell) for an unknown reason.

Julia also made a reappearance at the end of Black Widow, as the Contessa shared a photo of Clint “Hawkeye” Barton (Jeremy Renner) to Yelena (Florence Pugh), telling her that he was responsible for Natasha’s death.

Now, according to Marvel boss Kevin Feige, that isn’t the last we’ve seen of her.

“She’s doing something. She’s in recruitment mode. Does Yelena already work for her? They seem to have a connection at that point,” he told the D23 Inside Disney podcast. “The future is bright for the MCU because Julia Louis-Dreyfus is in it. We are gigantic fans of her at Marvel.”

He added, “The notion of bringing her into the world was always something, if we could find the right thing, we wanted to do.”

“When this role came about and the opportunity to have her in [Black] Widow, in [The] Falcon [and The Winter Soldier], and maybe in some other things coming up…” Kevin hinted.
