Sarah Hyland just received a permanent restraining order against her ex-boyfriend Matt Prokop.

The 23-year-old Modern Family starlet filed for a temporary restraining order against her boyfriend of four years claiming that he choked her, pushed her, and threatened her life.

Today, a judge ordered that Matt must stay 100 yards from Sarah, her house, and her dog Barkley Bixby, not go anywhere near her job, not own any firearms, and not threaten her dog in any way. The permanent restraining order will remain in effect for three years, TMZ reports. If Matt violates any of these points, he could go to jail.

Sarah Hyland has been advised by her lawyer not to comment on the situation regarding the restraining order she obtained against her ex-boyfriend Matt Prokop.

“Out of respect for the court, the process and all parties, I have advised Ms. Hyland not to comment on the matter,” her lawyer Lee A. Sherman said in a statement (via People).

In the court documents she filed, Sarah claims that Matt was abusive over the course of their five-year relationship. The allegations say that he called her derogatory names, threw objects at her, threatened the life of her dog, threatened to burn her house down, and even said she deserves to die.

Sarah, who stars on Modern Family, seems to be in good spirits after the news went wide. She posted a cute photo on Instagram on Wednesday night (September 24) with the caption: “A rare patch of (fake) grass in the city and a sandwich. What more could a girl want?”

“His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life,” Sarah said in the court documents about an argument with Matt.

With the restraining order, Matt must stay at least 100 yards away from Sarah and her dog at all times.

Sarah Hyland and her boyfriend Matt Prokop have gone their separate ways after many years together, her rep confirms to JustJared.com.

The 23-year-old Modern Family star and 24-year-old actor dated for five years – they first met while auditioning for High School Musical 3: Senior Year back in 2008.

“Sarah‘s doing fine. It didn’t work out,” a source told Us Weekly. “She’s young. They decided they would be better off as friends.” The split was reportedly very amicable.

Sarah attended the 2014 Emmy Awards last night without a date.
