Mayim Bialik Says It's 'An Unbelievable Opportunity' to Guest Host 'Jeopardy'

Mayim Bialik is getting ready to make her Jeopardy! debut!

The 45-year-old Big Bang Theory actress will be the latest star to guest host the long-running ABC competition series starting on Monday, May 31.

Ahead of her debut, Mayim, who has her PhD in neuroscience from UCLA, talked about getting the chance to guest host the show, saying it is an “immense honor” to stand in the late Alex Trebek‘s place.

“This is such an iconic and unbelievable piece of our collective culture, to be considered to be part of it really in any way, it’s an immense honor,” Mayim said. “Especially for someone who’s dedicated so much of my life to academia to knowing things and to being able to communicate things.”

As for what she hopes to bring to the show, Mayim said, “Being a woman of science, as I am, is something that I’m obviously very passionate about presenting myself as.”

She continued, “I really didn’t grow up with a lot of female role models and I think especially for young people — not just young girls, but for young girls and boys — to see that women can be scientists and can do these types of intellectual things, that feels very important to me.”

Mayim added, “Also, as a second generation American whose grandparents on one side never fully mastered the English language, it’s just an unbelievable opportunity to see what in two generations my family has been able to see.”

Mayim will be serving as guest host of Jeopardy! from May 31 through June 11.

Just recently, one of the Jeopardy! producers teased that the new permanent host of the show will be announced soon.

Mayim Bialik Opens Up About Her Years Long Anorexia Struggles

Mayim Bialik is opening up about her eating disorder struggles in the latest episode of her podcast.

The Call Me Kat star revealed that she’s been in recovery for the past two years.

“I happen to be a compulsive overeater, and I’m an anorexic and I’m a restricter and I’ve never said that,” Mayim revealed. “I eat too much when no one’s looking. I’m eating so I don’t have to feel anything.”

She shared that “this is the first time I’ve ever talked about it, because people are like, ‘Well, why are you so overweight?’ Well, because I’m a compulsive overeater in addition to being an anorexic and restricter.”

“I’m trying to release the pressure of being 15 pounds lighter, which is what I, quote, ‘should be’ by Hollywood standards,” Mayim continued while speaking with author and activist Glennon Doyle. “I’m trying to release the pressure of caring that I’m wearing the clothes that make me look like those other women, even though I’m not those other women. Those are, like, my short-term 2021 goals. Like, when can I wear all black and not have a stylist be like, ‘We need you in more color.’ It’s like, how about if I wear black because I feel the best and I like it, and they make a lot of cool clothes in the color black?”

Many other celebrities have spoken out about their struggles with eating disorders, including Demi Lovato, Katharine McPhee, and Outer BanksMadelyn Cline.

Jim Parsons Hired Mayim Bialik to Star in 'Call Me Kat' Because She's 'Annoying'

Doctors Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler are together again!

Jim Parsons
and Mayim Bialik had a virtual reunion on Ellen on Thursday (January 14).

The former Big Bang Theory co-stars appeared on the talk show to promote their new sitcom Call Me Kat, which Mayim stars in and is produced by Jim‘s production company.

During their interview, Mayim shared the story on how Jim approached her to star in the show.

“Jim came to me and he said ‘I want to know what you think about this project that my company has.’ It’s this Miranda show, it was really popular on the BBC,” Mayim shared.

‘So I went home, I did a little research, and I came back the next day and I said ‘Well, Jim, that seems like a really awesome project. Good luck, you’ve got my vote of confidence!’” Mayim continued. “And he said, ‘No, I’m asking because I want you to be in it!’ I was shocked because I think I’m very annoying, but however annoying I am, he obviously still wanted to work with me.”

Jim then jumped in and said, “I think that the annoying quality you bring is what America responds to, Mayim. I think that’s what this character wanted.”

Ellen jokingly added, “That’s very relatable. Everyone – we know some annoying, so that’s perfect.”

During a recent interview, Jim revealed that he auditioned for this comedy series before landing a role in Big Bang Theory.

'Jeopardy!' Announces Mayim Bialik & '60 Minutes' Bill Whitaker Will Also Guest Host Trivia Show

Mayim Bialik and 60 MinutesBill Whitaker are the latest celebrities to be announced as guest hosts for Jeopardy! in the coming weeks.

Following the passing of Alex Trebek in November 2020, the trivia game show has announced several guest hosts to lead the show as they search for a permanent replacement.

Mayim and Bill join the previously announced Aaron Rodgers, Katie Couric and current guest host, Ken Jennings.

Jeopardy! also revealed that as part of their hosting appearance, the show will make a donation to a charity of the hosts’ choice and it will be equal to the contestants’ cumulative winnings during the weeks they serve as host.

“Alex was a legend, revered by all of us,” Jeopardy! executive producer Mike Richards said in a statement. “I want to thank our guest hosts, who will not only help all of us celebrate his great legacy, but also bring their own touch to the show.”

He also told Entertainment Weekly that the guest hosts have chosen people who are “credible giving the clues, people that can actually give the clues accurately, that are going to be able to rule right or wrong on the responses, and that Jeopardy! fans will enjoy in that role, but that will not try to make themselves the star.”

Jeopardy! airs weeknights. Check your local listings for air times.

Aaron spilled the news of him hosting the program earlier this week.
