Michael Che Shares His Thoughts On Elon Musk Hosting the Show 'SNL'

Michael Che is weighing in on the controversy surrounding Elon Musk hosting Saturday Night Live.

The 37-year-old SNL co-writer and “Weekend Update” appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show for an interview airing on Wednesday (May 5) and during their conversation, Ellen asked Michael to share his thoughts on the 49-year-old Telsa CEO hosting the show.

After it was announced that Elon would be hosting, fans slammed the show for booking him. The fans weren’t the only ones that voiced how upset they are about the situation. Several SNL cast members also spoke out about the decision.

Despite how his co-workers feel, Michael is looking forward to seeing Elon host the show.

“Well, I was all on board for it until I found out that, like, did you know he’s rich?” Michael jokingly asked Ellen. “Yeah, now I’m, like, against it. I wish they would have told me that before.”

He also added that he knows the episode is “gonna be interesting.”

Michael then addressed the backlash SNL received from the fans.

“It’s cool that people care about who’s on the show. I think that’s what makes it kind of cool,” he said. “The show’s been on for 46 years and people still care about who’s being booked. I think that’s kind of dope.”

Find out if any SNL cast members will be sitting out of Elon‘s episode, which airs on Saturday, May 8 on NBC.

Colin Jost & Scarlett Johansson Are Worried About Michael Che's Wedding Present

Colin Jost is worried.

The 38-year-old Saturday Night Live star opened up about awaiting co-star Michael Che‘s wedding present after tying the knot with Scarlett Johansson last year.

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Colin said his co-star told him he plans to give him a gift “sometime” soon.

“The other day he just kinda came up to me in the hallway and he’s like, ‘Hey, uh, I got you something.’ I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ And he’s like, ‘Wedding present. I’ll bring it by sometime.’ I’m like, ‘Oh God, what?’ So I’m waiting to find out what this thing is. But we’re both pretty concerned for our wellbeing,” Colin joked.

Colin Jost also looked back at his wedding to Scarlett Johansson and opened up about why he didn’t help much with the planning process.

Despite temperatures dipping into the 10s and 20s over the night, MGK wore a cardigan sweater with his bare chest exposed as they made their way to the hotel.

Michael Che, Colin Jost and SNL producer Steve Higgins were also spotted outside NBC after the performance.

The 30-year-old musician made his debut on the sketch comedy series, giving a high-energy performance of his song “My Ex’s Best Friend.” Later in the night, MGK slowed things down for an emotional performance of his song “Lonely,” which he wrote about his father who died in July 2020. Michael Che Tricks Colin Jost Into Making Joke About Scarlett Johansson on 'SNL' - Watch!

Michael Che got the last laugh!

During the winter finale of Saturday Night Live on Saturday (December 19), Michael was able to trick Colin Jost into making a joke about his new wife Scarlett Johansson.

Each year right before the holidays, the “Weekend Update” hosts write jokes for each other to read live for the first time during the show.

In the last joke Michael wrote, he was able to poke fun at Scarlett – which clearly took Colin by surprise.

“It was announced that Creed singer Scott Stapp will play Frank Sinatra in an upcoming movie,” Colin nervously first started to read. “But the good news is Sammy Davis Jr. will be played by Scarlett Johansson.”

The jokes pokes fun at Scarlett‘s past controversies, where she was accused of whitewashing and appropriation, when she infamously played a Japanese character in Ghost in the Shell.

Colin didn’t seem offended by the joke, as he ended the segment with laughing.

'SNL' Tackles President Trump's Coronavirus Diagnosis - Watch! (Video)

Saturday Night Live did not hold back about President Donald Trump‘s coronavirus diagnosis.

Colin Jost and Michael Che tackled the subject during Weekend Update on the show’s season premiere Saturday night (October 3).

Even before the Weekend Update segment, during the opening monologue by Chris Rock, he addressed the diagnosis.

“Before we get started, the elephant in the room. President Trump is in the hospital from COVID, I just want to say my heart goes out to COVID,” he said.

During Weekend Update, Colin and Michael started their segment with Trump‘s diagnosis.

“Well say what you will about 2020 but it’s got moves. This news was a lot for us to process a day before we came back on the air after four months off and it all happened so fast. I woke up yesterday and heard the president had mild symptoms. And then four hours later, he was getting medevaced to a hospital in what looked like the last chopper out of Vietnam,” said Colin.

“I gotta say it’s a bad sign for America that when Trump said he tested positive for a virus, 60 percent of people were like, ‘prove it.’ And it’s been very weird to see all these people, who clearly hate Trump, come out and say ‘we wish him well.’ I think a lot of them are just guilty that their first wish came true,” he continued.

“While in the hospital, the president isn’t allowed to see any guests but he is expected to be visited by three ghosts, probably one from his past, one from his — okay this is weird! Because a lot of people on both sides are saying this is nothing funny about Trump being hospitalized with coronavirus even though he mocked the safety precautions for the coronavirus and those people are obviously wrong. There’s a lot funny about this, maybe not from a moral standpoint but mathematically, if you were constructing a joke this is all the ingredients you need. The problem is it’s almost too funny,” Michael added.

Trump‘s debate with Joe Biden was also mocked in the cold open.

“Well, I’m happy to report, Colin, that America is now number one in the world for coronavirus. Number one, while I was president! #Americanumberone. #Notimportantwhy,” he said during the call.

“I’ve always said it was a giant hoax that we should take very seriously, even though it was invented by the Democrats…so, everyone needs to wash their hands, or not.”

Later on, he made a reference to the wildly popular Netflix series, Tiger King.

“Well, in times like this, we need to come together as one nation. Because no matter our differences, all Americans can agree on one thing — Carole Baskin definitely fed her husband to those tigers,” he said.

“I am proud to announce, Trump/Exotic 2020…I’m sorry Mike Pence had to find out this way. But, I have a feeling Pence is going to be pretty into Joe Exotic.”
