'Supernatural' Fans React to No Destiel Moment in the Series Finale & They're Not Happy - Read Tweets!

Fans are not happy by something that was left out of the series finale of The CW’s Supernatural, which just aired.

Two weeks ago, Misha Collins‘ character Castiel was killed off, but first he confessed his love for Jensen Ackles‘ Dean.

This relationship is one that fans have been writing into fan fiction for years and since it actually came true on the series, it officially became “canon.” But, since Castiel was killed off right after the moment happened, fans felt cheated of a relationship they hoped to see explored in the series.

Many fans were hoping to see Castiel make a return in the series finale so they could receive closure to the “Destiel” storyline, but they didn’t get their wish.

Misha Collins Confirms 'Destiel' is Canon, Says Castiel Made a 'Homosexual Declaration of Love'

Misha Collins is opening up about his final scene on Supernatural, in which his character Castiel confessed his love for Jensen Ackles‘ character Dean and then died moments later.

Fans have been debating if the “Destiel” moment is considered canon, which means that it actually happened in the fictional universe of the story, unlike fan fiction.

Well, now Misha is confirming that that moment was indeed canon!

During a Zoom call this weekend, Misha talked about the scene. He said, “Castiel tells Dean he loves him and like basically makes Destiel canon. Fans are kind of freaking out over that. And then to complicate matters, he dies right after that. So Castiel makes this homosexual declaration of love, which is amazing that that happens, and then he dies right after, which plays into a timeless Hollywood trope of kill the gays. We give and then we take away.”

To learn about why Castiel had to die after confessing his love, check out our spoilers post for the episode.

Misha previously reacted to his character’s heartbreaking ending in a post-episode interview.

Misha Collins Reacts to Castiel's Heartbreaking Ending on 'Supernatural' (Spoilers)

Last night’s episode of Supernatural had a shocking death that followed an incredibly emotional revelation for Misha Collins‘ character Castiel.

The character was killed off the show after confessing his love for Dean, who is played by Jensen Ackles. If you’re not an avid watcher of the show, here’s a quick recap of what led to this death: Castiel made a deal with The Entity to allow him to live his life until the moment he’s truly happy. While being faced with the possibility of being killed alongside Dean, Castiel takes his own life by revealing his true feelings for Dean and ultimately reaching that moment of happiness.

People are debating if #Destiel is actually “canon,” which means that it actually happened in the fictional universe of the story, unlike fan fiction.

“I think Castiel’s ending on the show is really just what I would have wanted. I knew the ending that he was going to meet with for about a year, and I was really happy about it. And I’m still happy about it,” Misha said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I’m really curious to see how the audience responds to the end for Cas. But it feels important. It feels like it makes his arc on the show meaningful, not just in terms of the mythology of the show, but in terms of a message for the greater world and our particular moment in history. I’m very happy with it.”

Misha also talked about his last days on set for the show’s final season.

“It was sad. I mean, it was something that, it didn’t come as a surprise. We’ve all had a lot of time, a lot of warning about the end coming and we see scripts far enough in advance we know more specific details of how our characters are going to finish on the show. But Castiel’s last scene in the show was also my last scene shooting. So it had this double poignancy for me. I was saying goodbye to the cast and the crew at the same time that they were saying goodbye to Castiel,” he said.

The series finale of Supernatural airs on November 19.

'Destiel' Trends After 'Supernatural' Character Reveals He's Gay, Then Dies

SPOILER ALERT – This post contains spoilers from the latest episode of Supernatural, so stop reading now if you don’t want to know what happened.

Supernatural‘s final season is currently airing and in episode 1518, which was titled “Despair,” something happened that has fans very upset.

Misha Collins‘ character Castiel was killed off the show after confessing his love for Dean, who is played by Jensen Ackles.

To quickly summarize the plot for those who don’t watch, Castiel made a deal with The Entity to allow him to live his life until the moment he’s truly happy. While being faced with the possibility of being killed alongside Dean, Castiel takes his own life by revealing his true feelings for Dean and ultimately reaching that moment of happiness.

Cas told Dean, “I never found an answer because the one thing I want is something I know I can’t have. But I think I know now happiness isn’t in the having. It’s in just being. Knowing you has changed me. Because you cared, I cared. I cared about the whole world because of you. You changed me, Dean.”

Dean asked Cas why it sounded like a goodbye and he replied, “It is. I love you. Goodbye, Dean.”

Fans are upset with this new development because Castiel’s feelings for Dean were never revealed until this moment, but now this storyline won’t be explored. The general consensus is that Castiel revealed he’s gay in this moment, but there are some fans who think he just loved Dean as a best friend. People are also debating if #Destiel is actually “canon,” which means that it actually happened in the fictional universe of the story, unlike fan fiction.

The series finale of Supernatural will air on November 19.

The show was set to finish filming back in March, but the pandemic forced the team to shut production with two episodes left to film, five more in post-production. The final seven episodes will premiere on October 8 – but the stars are already getting emotional with their goodbyes.

“Woke up at 6am this morning. That alarm went off with a heavy tone. Today is the final day of a 15 year journey. One that has changed my life forever. To those I have worked with on this journey and to those who have watched and supported…you will never understand my great appreciation for you,” Jensen wrote on his Instagram.

“‘Thank you’ doesn’t cover it. There just aren’t words. I’m so grateful for these memories that I will carry with me forever. What a ride it has been. And what a run. #spnfamilyforever here are a few shots from our final days…including today. I’ll try and send more later, but in true SPN form…we are in the middle of “nowhere” and have zero service. Go figure. Stay tuned.”

“Well, here goes…I write this as I head to my last day of #Supernatural. My last day with #SamWinchester. Obviously, my head is spinning and my emotions are stratospheric, but there’s still a bit of time left on the clock,” Jared wrote on his Instagram.

“Thank y’all SO MUCH for the incredible amount of love and support that’s been headed our way, in these final hours. It’s definitely been felt. I’ll check in soon, but, for now, #WeHaveWorkToDo #spnfamily.”

Misha also added his goodbye on Twitter: “#ThankYouSupernatural. You’ve changed my life in so many ways and you changed the world for the better. Fight on,” he wrote.
