MTV Movie & TV Awards Returning in 2021 - Find out When It's Airing!

The MTV Movie & TV Awards are coming back.

After the 2020 awards ceremony was pushed back to December amid the pandemic, the 2021 ceremony will be airing live from Los Angeles on May 16, the company announced Thursday (March 11).

And on the next night (May 17), MTV will broadcast the inaugural Movie & TV Awards: Unscripted (working title) special, which celebrates “the jaw-dropping, no-rules, drama-filled moments from our favorite reality shows.”

Hosts, nominees, performers, presenters and additional details for both events have not yet been revealed by MTV.

Last year, Vanessa Hudgens hosted the 90-minute special, and Sia, Travis Barker and Steve Aoki all performed during the show.

A beloved MTV series also made a huge return after many years. Find out what it is!

MTV is Bringing in Vanessa Hudgens to Host Their 'Greatest of All Time' Special

Vanessa Hudgens is teaming up with MTV for their upcoming special, the MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest of All Time.

The 31-year-old actress was tapped to host the network’s new special, which is in lieu of the regular award show that usually takes place every June. Due to the pandemic, it wasn’t able to happen this year.

Vanessa will be on hand to highlight the biggest and best moments in film and television from the 1980s until now, and performers and honorees for the special are expected to be announced later.

Don’t worry about the actual award show though, MTV did reveal in their release that the show IS slated to return in 2021 for a “weekend event takeover”.

During the special, Vanessa will also share exclusive footage of some of the most-anticipated releases of next year.

The MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest of All Time will premiere on Sunday, December 6, at 8/7c on MTV.

If you didn’t see, Vanessa will be playing three roles in her upcoming Netflix movie. Check out the first look here!

The MTV Movie & TV Awards 2020 Have Been Postponed Again & Might Happen in December

The 2020 MTV Movie & TV Awards might not be happening at all this year.

Variety first reported that the show has been postponed indefinitely.

Now, the network says that they have hopes for the show to happen in December, depending on where things stand.

The show was originally postponed to September at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was postponed at that time.

“We’re exploring with government officials, the medical community and key stakeholders on how to safely hold the 2020 VMAs at Barclays Center on August 30th,” an MTV spokesperson shared with the paper. “The health of everyone involved is our number one priority. Additionally, we are working on several contingency plans to bring music’s biggest night to audiences everywhere.”

Last year’s event took place around this time with Shazam! star Zachary Levi hosting.

If the show would not go on, that would make it the first time the show was cancelled.

There have been a slew of music festivals, film events and more things that have been cancelled because of the pandemic. See the full list here…

“I don’t mean to brag, but my friend Jada Pinkett Smith is the recipient of the Trailblazer Award,” Tiffany told the crowd. “That’s my friend. She’s taken us to Madagascar and into The Matrix. You can even say her career has been one crazy Girl’s Trip. See what I did there? Just call me Jada Pinkett Pedia Smith.”

“Starring in some of my favorite TV shows and movies isn’t what makes her a trailblazer,” Tiffany continued. “Neither is the fact that she’s dedicated years of her life and much of her own dollars and time to to help those less fortunate than herself with the Will and Jada Pinkett Smith Foundation. She’s the one everyone who knows her goes to – that’s why I always ask her if I can have some money. It’s the fact that she’s never stopped pushing boundaries. She doesn’t know the meaning of the word ‘No,’ which is also why I ask her for money. But I always ask for small amounts!”

“Now, in addition to all that and raising two of the coolest kids in the world, she’s decided to raise the bar once again.” Tiffany added. “Her Red Table Talk series is setting the standard for talk shows in this next century and bringing together generations for conversations about everything from God to sex to race – it’s serious. She’s not making a talk show, she’s making a show with real talk and I’m all about that. And to top it off, she’s married to the real-life Prince … the Prince of Bel-Air. She’s an actor and a philanthropist, a boss, a mom and somehow after being in the game for almost 30 years, she still looks 28.”

Watch Jada‘s speech below! Her son Jaden Smith joined her on stage.
