SuChin Pak Recounts Racist White Male Colleague in MTV Newsroom

SuChin Pak is opening up about a past MTV experience amid a rise of anti-Asian violence in the United States.

The 44-year-old former MTV News correspondent spoke out on social media on Thursday (March 18) amid cries to #StopAsianHate.

“Years ago, when I was a news correspondent at MTV, I overheard a colleague of mine, while watching me do the news that evening tell a room full of people that I looked like a ‘me sucky sucky love you long time’ whore. I was young, afraid as usual to cause a fuss or be seen as difficult or too ‘sensitive’ being the only female in the news room, so I didn’t say anything in the moment,” she wrote.

“I fought to have this person removed. I stopped coming into work. The executives tried to mediate to reconcile but I refused. It dragged on for months,” she revealed.

“I see now, decades later, there was a fire, an anger, a burning rage that kept me on the course. And I say this also, to make a very clear point, I had a lawyer, who believed that I could not walk back into a place that harbored this kind of hate,” she continued.

“One last attempt was made at ‘reconciliation’ as if that was even appropriate….A letter written by the man was handed to me as a final gesture, to being me to submission. I was reminded once again, by the white male executive, that someone’s livelihood was on the line, that I was somehow responsible for that…I walked out, never touched or opened that letter…I carry these memories with me, to remind myself that when I feel sick with grief and indecision and fear as I do now, that my dignity is something that can never be bargained with, isn’t something for me to put away so someone else can feel comfortable.”

“Be angry. Be f–king enraged. And then do something, to repair this damage. Read, donate, volunteer, share and hold one another as we find out way through this pain,” she concluded.

Many stars have also spoken up to condemn anti-Asian sentiment.

MTV's 'The Real World' to Return with Original New York Cast for Paramount+

The beloved MTV series The Real World is returning to television and the show’s original New York cast is coming back.

The cast from the longtime show’s first season will reunite in the same loft they filmed in back in 1992, according to THR.

The new series, The Real World Homecoming: New York, will air on the new streaming service Paramount+ and it will premiere on launch day, March 4. Returning cast members include Becky Blasband, Andre Comeau, Heather B. Gardner, Julie Gentry, Norman Korpi, Eric Nies and Kevin Powell.

MTV Entertainment Group president Chris McCarthy said, “MTV’s The Real World has been credited with creating the reality TV genre and was one of the first series that tackled important and yet unrepresented topics of the time, from HIV/AIDS, race, gender, orientation and religion. With Paramount+ being the home to so many global reality hit franchises, it seems only fitting to bring back the franchise and cast that started it all.”

Paramount+ is the rebrand of CBS All Access and the streaming service will feature content from the ViacomCBS family.
