Tweets About 'National Treasure' Movie Went Viral Amid Events at Capitol Building

After the events that happened at the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. this week, tweets about the movie National Treasure went viral.

If you didn’t know, one plot line in that movie involved Nicolas Cage‘s character and his team stealing the Declaration of Independence to find a treasure map on the back of it.

“starting to think it’d actually be incredibly easy to steal the declaration of independence,” one person tweeted.

Someone else wrote, “I am no longer impressed that Nicholas Cage managed to steal the Declaration of Independence.”

President Trump‘s supporters stormed into the U.S. Capitol building on January 6, but the Declaration of Independence isn’t actually in that building. It’s located at the National Archives Museum, which is on Constitution Avenue in D.C.

Disney Is Making a 'National Treasure' Series with a Younger Cast!

A new television series based in the National Treasure universe is in the works for Disney Plus!

We’ve already heard about a third movie being made for the big screen and now producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirms that a TV series featuring a younger cast is also being developed.

“We’re certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen,” he told Collider. “Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active … The one for Disney Plus is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but a young cast.”

Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger, and Justin Bartha haven’t yet been confirmed for the third movie, but Bruckheimer has said that the upcoming movie will feature the “same cast.”

Cage was just cast in another very exciting project!

'National Treasure 3' In The Works at Disney

It’s official – National Treasure 3 is coming!

News broke this afternoon (January 17) that a third film in the popular franchise is in the works.

Variety is reporting that Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have tapped Chris Bremner to write the script.

If you don’t know, the first two films starring Nicolas Cage and Diane Kruger, centered on cryptologist Benjamin Franklin Gates. In the first movie, he found a treasure map on the back of the Declaration of Independence, and the second focused on missing pages in John Wilkes Booth’s diary.

Disney chief Bob Iger addressed the potential for a third movie at the annual shareholders meeting last year.

“I know that Jerry Bruckheimer who produced National Treasure 1 And 2 would like to make a third movie and I know that discussions about that film have gone on, probably since 2016, with our studio, but I know that they have not greenlit such a film,” he shared.

Bob added, “They have talked about a number of different possibilities both on the creative side and from a timing perspective and I just don’t have anything to announce, though I did speak with Mr. Bruckheimer not long ago about it and I know his passion for that franchise remains pretty strong. We love those first two films too, but we’re not quite there yet.”

You can stream National Treasure on Netflix now.
