Nicholas Hoult stars in the title role of Tolkien, where he portrays famous writer J.R.R. Tolkien, who is responsible for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, among other works.

The film explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the “fellowship” apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels.

The film also stars Lily Collins as Edith Bratt, Tolkien’s wife, among others.

The photo was shot by three-time Academy Award-winning cinematographer Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki over the course of a two day shoot using his motion-picture camera to create the group shot.

Nicholas Hoult wears a unique hat on the cover of ES Magazine‘s new issue, on newsstands now.

Here is what the 29-year-old actor had to share with the mag:

On becoming a father and why he won’t reveal his child’s gender: “And having a baby puts you in this place where you go, oh, okay, this human is going to change a lot… It makes you value time differently, which is why I talk very quickly in interviews now, because I need to get home to them. [The choice of pronoun is deliberate: Hoult is keeping the child’s gender secret, at least for now.] Someone will find out soon enough and that’s fine, no big deal, but for now it’s my own precious little thing and I’m keeping it.”

On working alongside ex Jennifer Lawrence on the set of X-Men: “It’s pretty similar to Skins, we’re a big family, we’ve been doing those movies since we were 20 years old. As much as the Skins crowd grew up together, the X-Men crowd really grew up together. It’s been a good eight, nine years making those movies. We’ve all got to get along, we’ve all got to have fun. The really beautiful thing about this last film is that [writer and director] Kim Berger has given me somewhere nice and new to experiment and go with the character. Which is cool.”

Nicholas Hoult and Joe Alwyn show off their cool bow ties at the 2019 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (January 6) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The two The Favourite co-stars met up with several of their co-stars on the red carpet, including Olivia Colman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz.

While neither Joe or Nicholas are individually up for awards tonight, The Favourite is up for Best Musical/Comedy Motion Picture.

The Golden Globes will be hosted by Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Andy Samberg and Killing Eve‘s Sandra Oh this year. The show will air on NBC and the broadcast kicks off at 8pm EST/5pm PST. Make sure to tune in!

The Favourite is nominated for five Golden Globes including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy while all three actress are nominated as well.

Nicholas Hoult and his girlfriend Bryana Holly were in attendance at the Skins reunion this past weekend!

The 29-year-old actor is rarely photographed or seen out and about with his 25-year-old model girlfriend. They welcomed a child together earlier this year, but no details are known about their baby.

Skins star Kaya Scodelario posted the photo of the reunion, which included co-stars Hannah Murray, Joe Dempsie, Raleigh Ritchie, Larissa Wilson, and more. Kaya‘s hubby Benjamin Walker was also in attendance!

If you don’t know, Skins was a British TV show that ran from 2007 to 2013.

James McAvoy shows off his Watership Down shirt while attending a photo call for the new animated mini-series on Saturday (November 24) at BFI Southbank in London, England.

The 39-year-old actor was joined at the event by his co-stars Nicholas Hoult and Gemma Arterton.

The mini-series is based on the 1972 novel of the same name by Richard Adams. It’s a co-production between the BBC and Netflix and it will air on Christmas Day in the UK.

Some more stars who lent their voices to the mini-series include John Boyega, Ben Kingsley, and Daniel Kaluuya.
