Novak Djokovic & Rafael Nadal Played An Epic Four-Hour Tennis Match During French Open 2021

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal just finished one of the wildest games of tennis ever at the 2021 French Open in Paris on Friday night (June 11).

The two tennis stars went head to head for a spot in the single finals, which kick off tomorrow.

During their four set match, Novak bested Rafael 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), and then 6-2.

The third match between Novak and Rafael lasted for an amazing 97 minutes, and the total time they were on the court added up to four hours and 11 minutes.

“Just one of these nights and matches that you will remember forever,” Novak shared after the match with press.

He added, “Definitely the best match that I was part of ever in Roland Garros, for me, and (one of the) top three matches that I ever played in my entire career — considering quality of tennis, playing my biggest rival on the court where he has had so much success and has been the dominant force in the last 15-plus years. And the atmosphere, which was completely electric.”

Novak, who is ranked No. 1 in the world, beat Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the men’s singles finals at Rod Laver Arena.

This is also his ninth Australian Open title and 18th Grand Slam title. He is now just behind the all-time record of 20 Grand Slam wins held by Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

“Everyone has their own journey and their own way of making history, and they’ve made history already. I’m trying to build that and develop that myself in a very unique authentic way that is suitable to me. Whether I think about winning more slams and breaking records, of course I do. Most of my attention and energy from this day forward until I retire from tennis is going to be directed in majors and trying to win more major trophies,” he said after the game.

He also made headlines for doing something in a fit of rage days before.

Novak Djokovic Hits Line Judge in the Face with Tennis Ball, Not Disqualified This Time!

Novak Djokovic has done it again!

Just one month after the tennis star was disqualified from the U.S. Open after accidentally hitting a lineswoman with a tennis ball, he hit a line judge in the face during the French Open.

The moment happened during Novak‘s fourth round match against Karen Khachanov of Russia on day nine of the 2020 French Open on Monday (October 5) at Roland Garros in Paris, France.

Novak was disqualified from the U.S. Open because the ball hit the lineswoman when he smacked the ball out of the court in a moment of frustration. Since the ball wasn’t in play at the time, he was disqualified.

The French Open moment was purely accidental and it happened while the ball was still in play, so he was able to continue in the tournament. The line judge thankfully was not injured.

Novak Djokovic Makes Statement Following Being Disqualified From US Open: 'This Whole Situation Has Left Me Really Sad And Empty'

Novak Djokovic has issued a statement following his disqualification from the 2020 US Open.

If you didn’t see, the 33-year-old Serbian tennis player was disqualified after accidentally hitting a lineswoman with a ball during a fit of anger mid-game.

She was hit in the throat, and dropped to the ground at the back of the court.

After the USTA decision to disqualify him, Novak released his own statement on social media.

“This whole situation has left me really sad and empty,” he started. “I checked on the lines person and the tournament told me that thank God she is feeling ok. I’m extremely sorry to have caused her such stress. So unintended. So wrong. I’m not disclosing her name to respect her privacy.”

Novak added, “As for the disqualification, I need to go back within and work on my disappointment and turn this all into a lesson for my growth and evolution as a player and human being. I apologize to the @usopen tournament and everyone associated for my behavior. I’m very grateful to my team and family for being my rock support, and my fans for always being there with me. Thank you and I’m so sorry.”

Earlier in the summer, Novak made more headlines for his stance on coronavirus.

Novak was a favorite to win in the men’s singles tournament, and was down 5-6 in the first set against Pablo Carreño Busta.

Right before, on the second point, he fell to the ground after chasing a shot and was seen holding onto his left shoulder. Frustrated, he walked to the sideline and launched the ball behind him, accidentally hitting the umpire. She was hit in the throat, and dropped to the ground at the back of the court.

He appeared visibly stunned and walked towards her to check on her condition. Officials discussed for several minutes, and decided to default the player, who shook hands with opponent Pablo, who advanced to the quarterfinals.

The disqualification also means there will be a first-time Grand Slam men’s singles champion at the U.S. Open this year.

“In accordance with the Grand Slam rulebook, following his actions of intentionally hitting a ball dangerously or recklessly within the court or hitting a ball with negligent disregard of the consequences, the US Open tournament referee defaulted Novak Djokovic from the 2020 US Open. Because he was defaulted, Djokovic will lose all ranking points earned at the US Open and will be fined the prize money won at the tournament in addition to any or all fines levied with respect to the offending incident,” the USTA said in a statement.

Back in May, Novak came under fire when he broke social distancing rules in Spain and he also made controversial comments back in April about the coronavirus vaccine.

Novak would later test positive for coronavirus, releasing an apology, saying that he was wrong to set up a tour amid the pandemic.
