Penelope Cruz wears her face mask while arriving on the set of her new film in Madrid, Spain last week.

The 46-year-old actress wore a long wool coat while preparing for the scenes for the movie, titled Madres Paralelas, alongside director Pedro Almodóvar.

Not much is known about the movie, except that it will explore the story of two mothers who give birth on the same day.

Penelope is set to play Janis in the flick.

“I return to the female universe and to motherhood as well, which is a subject that has always fascinated me. But in this case, the mothers that appear are very different from the ones Penélope has played before,” Pedro shared with AP in a recent interview about the project.

He added, “These are very imperfect mothers and as an author that’s what interested me the most, especially because I have already done several self-sacrificing and heroic mothers. So this is a little bit about descendants, children, but also about ancestors, about family.”

Penelope has previous worked with Pedro on three projects: All About My Mother, Volver and Pain & Glory.

Jessica Chastain is speaking out to defend the casting of Penelope Cruz as a Colombian spy in their new movie The 355.

Variety published an article in which the film was called out for casting a Spanish actress in the role of a Latina woman as they are not the same.

“She’s cast in a role that makes it seem clear that executives and agents put no effort into scouring the world to find a more appropriate choice, or to be even more daring, an actual Colombian actress to play Graciela,” the author of the article wrote.

Jessica, who is also a producer on the movie, released a statement to the outlet in which she explained that the role was originally conceived as being Brazilian, but Penelope did not feel comfortable playing a character from Brazil.

Female agents from around the globe join forces to save the world in the upcoming movie The 355 and the action-packed trailer has been released!

Jessica Chastain, Penelope Cruz, Diane Kruger, Lupita Nyong’o, and Fan Bingbing star in the new movie, which was directed by Dark Phoenix‘s Simon Kinberg.

Here is the synopsis: When a top-secret weapon falls into mercenary hands, wild card CIA agent Mason “Mace” Brown (Chastain) will need to join forces with rival badass German agent Marie (Kruger), former MI6 ally and cutting-edge computer specialist Khadijah (Nyong’o), and skilled Colombian psychologist Graciela (Cruz) on a lethal, breakneck mission to retrieve it, while also staying one-step ahead of a mysterious woman, Lin Mi Sheng (Bingbing), who is tracking their every move. As the action rockets around the globe from the cafes of Paris to the markets of Morocco to the wealth and glamour of Shanghai, the quartet of women will forge a tenuous loyalty that could protect the world—or get them killed.

Also starring in the movie are Sebastian Stan and Edgar Ramirez.

Penelope Cruz sports big hair and a sparkly jumpsuit while walking a red carpet with Antonio Banderas on the set of their upcoming movie!

The two stars were spotted filming a scene for the movie Official Competition on Wednesday (September 30) in Madrid, Spain.

The movie is being directed by Argentina-based directors, Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat. Variety reports that the movie stars Antonio and Oscar Martinez “as renowned actors of large talent but even bigger egos, set on a collision course on the set of film directed by a celebrated auteur cineaste (Cruz).”

The movie just resumed production after being shut down in March due to the pandemic.

“Within all the negatives of interrupting a shoot, there was something positive: We had an unusually large amount of time to study the already-shot material, and to put under a microscope the screenplay for what is left to film,” Duprat said in a press release. “The material we already have is wonderful: Penélope, Antonio and Oscar are extraordinary. The scenes have what we wanted, an uncomfortable mix of tension and sarcasm in an aesthetic framework of great conceptual strength. We restarted filming with the certainty that we have something really powerful on our hands.”

Penelope Cruz is speaking out on behalf of her longtime friend Johnny Depp and defending him against allegations made by his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The Oscar-winning actress filed a declaration in the defamation case that Johnny is pursuing against Amber, who has accused him of domestic abuse.

Johnny and Penelope have worked together in 2001′s Blow, 2011′s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and 2017′s Murder on the Orient Express.

“I met Johnny when I was 19 years old,” Penelope wrote in her declaration (which was revealed by The Blast). “He was in Madrid and Pedro Almodovar introduced him to me. The only sentences I knew how to say in English at that time were, ‘how are you’ and ‘I want to work with Johnny Depp.’”

“Many years have passed and I have not only made 3 movies with him, but I also count on him as a great friend. I’ve always been impressed by his kindness, his brilliant mind, his talent, and his peculiar sense of humor,” she continued. “I’ve seen Johnny in so many situations and he is always kind to everyone around. He is one of the most generous people I know.”

“During six months of my first pregnancy, I spent every single day with him while we shot Pirates of the Caribbean. My husband [Javier Bardem] and I will never forget the sweetness, protection, and kindness he treated me with during every single step of that process,” she concluded. “We love him very much and I feel lucky to have someone so special in our lives.”

Johnny‘s ex-fiancee Winona Ryder has also defended him in a declaration that was submitted to the judge.

The 45-year-old star arrived in style for the 2020 Academy Awards on Sunday (February 9) at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

She will be presenting an award on stage tonight. If you don’t know, Penelope won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2008 for her work in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

The two stars were spotted hanging out at Chanel & Charles Finch’s Pre-Oscar Awards Dinner on Saturday night (February 8) at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.

Penelope and Diane are part of the star-studded cast of the spy thriller 355, which hits theaters in January 2021.

Also in attendance at the party were Penelope‘s Pain and Glory director Pedro Almodovar, actresses Demi Moore and Gina Gershon, The Irishman stars Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel, and Birdman‘s Michael Keaton. They were all seen mingling with event host Charles Finch.
