Rachel Zegler has landed a major Disney role!

The 20-year-old actress – who will be seen in December’s release West Side Story in the main role of Maria – has just landed the role of Snow White in the live action adaptation of the classic Disney film.

“Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts. Her strength, intelligence and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairytale,” director Marc Webb said in a statement to Deadline. Production will reportedly start next year.

Rachel herself reacted to the news on her Instagram account, writing, “well… hello to a dream come true.”

The 19-year-old actress is playing the role of Maria in the remake of West Side Story and the first teaser trailer dropped during the Oscars.

Rachel shared some emotional tweets with fans over the weekend while preparing for the trailer to premiere and she recorded herself watching it while in her Los Angeles hotel room. The 18-minute video first shows Rachel hanging out with friends like The Prom‘s Nico Greetham and Broadway actor Chris McCarrell throughout the weekend. We then get to see her reaction to the trailer starting at the 14:30 mark.

The first teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg‘s remake of the classic musical West Side Story has arrived!

Ansel Elgort and newcomer Rachel Zegler star in the film as Tony and Maria alongside EGOT winner Rita Moreno as Valentina, who owns the corner store in which Tony works. The film tells the classic tale of fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City.

For those that don’t know, Rita played the role of Anita in the original film and won an Oscar for her performance. Her role in the remake was created specifically for her!

The 19-year-old actress is playing Maria in the upcoming movie remake of the musical West Side Story, which was supposed to be released in theaters this past December. TheWrap reports that Rachel has joined the cast of the Shazam sequel, but details about her character are being kept under wraps right now.

“i am in my key role in shazam 2 era,” she tweeted after the news was announced.

Rachel is the second Colombian American actress to be cast in a DC superhero project after last week’s announcement that Sasha Calle will be playing Supergirl in The Flash.

Zachary Levi is set to reprise his role as Shazam in the upcoming movie with David F. Sandberg returning to direct.
