'Knives Out' 2 & 3 Coming to Netflix, Rian Johnson & Daniel Craig Set to Return!

The Knives Out franchise is expanding in a huge way!

Netflix is closing on a deal to make not one, but two sequels to the 2019 hit movie Knives Out, which would be directed by Rian Johnson and will star Daniel Craig once again, Deadline reported Wednesday (March 31).

Daniel Craig will reprise his role as Benoit Blanc. Rian wrote the original movie, and has written the sequels.

Sources say the deal will be worth more than $400 million, making it one of the biggest streamer movie deals in history.

While the news of a sequel was already known and reported earlier in 2020, it was not known that there was a bidding war between streamers. It appears that Netflix has won out in a huge deal.

The first film cost $40 million, and brought in a global gross of $311 million.

The first of the two planned sequels will begin shooting on June 28 in Greece, and casting for the movie will start soon.

One of the film’s big stars revealed they almost passed on the role.

“I have to write it! Do you have any ideas?” he joked when asked about the plot of the new sequel.

He confirmed Daniel Craig will be back as Benoit Blanc.

“In my mind, I don’t even think of it in terms of a sequel…ever since we started working on this, I was like, look, if we can keep this going the same way Agatha Christie wrote a bunch of Poirot novels and do that with Blanc and keep making mysteries. Whole new cast, Whole new location, whole new mystery…there’s so many different things you can do with it,” he said.

When asked where it would be set, he simply joked: “Space.”
