Government officials in Australia are speaking out about the new cases of Coronavirus in the country, which include Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.

The officials from Queensland Health did not specifically name Tom and Rita, but they did say that all of the new patients are non-contact cases and they are believed to have “contracted the illness outside Australia and traveled to Queensland with the virus,” according to THR. Because of this, officials believe the couple contracted the virus in the United States or while traveling to Australia.

Tom and Rita were in Australia for over a week before they were diagnosed with COVID-19 and they are currently in isolation in a hospital on the Gold Coast for 14 days.

While details of the couple’s movements around Australia have not yet been made public, they are reportedly helping officials trace their whereabouts. We do know that Rita made several promo appearances for her music in the past week, including appearances across Brisbane and Sydney.

Production on Tom‘s upcoming Elvis movie has been shut down and everyone working on the film has been sent home upon further instructions.

Chet Hanks filmed a video update for fans of his parents, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, just a few hours after it was revealed they had tested positive for coronavirus.

“What’s up everyone?” the 29-year-old started in the video on his Instagram. “Yeah, it’s true. My parents got Coronavirus. Crazy. They’re both down in Australia right now because my dad was shooting a movie down there but I just got off the phone with them. They both are fine, they’re not even that sick.”

Chet added that Tom and Rita are “not worried about it” either.

“They’re not trippin’ but they’re going through the necessary health precautions obviously,” he adds. “But I don’t think it’s anything to be too worried about. I appreciate everyone’s concern and the well wishes but I think it’s all going to be alright but I appreciate it and just, everybody stay safe out there. Much love.”

Rita and Tom are the two biggest names who have tested positive for the virus since its’ outbreak.

A Broadway usher and basketball player have also tested positive.

Celebrities are taking to Twitter to react to the shocking news that Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have both tested positive for the coronavirus.

The actors announced on Wednesday (March 11) that they tested positive for the illness while they are in Australia.

Tom and Rita are currently in Australia as he films the upcoming Elvis Presley biopic directed by Baz Luhrmann.

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have announced that they have tested positive for coronavirus.

The couple, both 63, revealed the news in a statement on Wednesday (March 11) that they were tested while they are in Australia as Tom films the upcoming Elvis Presley biopic.

“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive,” Tom wrote on Instagram.

“Well, now. What to do next,” Tom continued. “The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no? We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!”

In the past, Tom has spoken out about his type 2 diabetes diagnosis.
