Robert Downey, Jr. has released a statement after the death of his father, Robert Downey, Sr., at the age of 85 on Wednesday (July 7).
The 85-year-old filmmaker’s wife confirmed his death earlier today, and Robert posted a message on social media.

Robert Downey, Sr. has sadly passed away, his wife confirmed to the New York Daily News. He was married to bestselling author Rosemary Rogers, who was home at the time of his death.
The 85-year-old filmmaker, responsible for films like Putney Swope and Greaser’s Palace, passed away in his sleep on Wednesday (July 7) at his home in New York City. Robert Sr. is the father of actor Robert Downey, Jr.
In addition to directing credits, Robert Sr. also acted in films like Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and To Live And Die in L.A.
He had also been battling Parkinson’s Disease.
