Secret Woody Allen Documentary Series Coming to HBO - Watch the Trailer

A new documentary about Woody Allen is coming to HBO.

Ronan Farrow, Dylan Farrow, and Mia Farrow all participated in Allen v. Farrow, which is promising to go “behind decades of sensational headlines to reveal the private story of one of Hollywood’s most notorious and public scandals: the accusation of sexual abuse against Woody Allen involving Dylan, his then 7-year-old daughter with Mia Farrow,” THR reported Friday (February 5).

The film was directed by Oscar-nominated documentarians Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering, and chronicles the former couple’s subsequent custody trial and the revelation of his relationship with her daughter, Soon-Yi Previn.

HBO will debut the first episode on February 21 at 9 p.m., with new episodes airing on subsequent Sundays at the same time.

The series was shot in secret, and features “investigative work pieced together via intimate home movie footage, court documents, police evidence, revelatory videotape and never-before-heard audio tapes.” There are also in-depth interviews on the subject with Mia Farrow, Dylan Farrow, Ronan Farrow, family friend Carly Simon, prosecutor Frank Maco, relatives, investigators, experts and other first-hand eyewitnesses, with many of them speaking publicly about the events for the first time.

An actress just came forward to say she regrets working with Woody Allen.

Matt Lauer Lashes Out at Ronan Farrow for Rape Allegation Reporting

Matt Lauer is firing off at Ronan Farrow following a recent New York Times story questioning the 32-year-old journalist’s reporting integrity, called “Is Ronan Farrow Too Good to Be True?”

The 62-year-old former TV news anchor, whose rape allegation was part of Ronan‘s book Catch & Kill, spoke out in a media column on Mediaite on Tuesday (May 19), called “Why Ronan Farrow Is Indeed Too Good to Be True.”

“I was shaken, but not surprised, that few in the media were willing to thoroughly challenge the accusations against me, or the person making them,” he wrote.

“I had originally intended to release [Tuesday’s rebuttal] in November of 2019, but personal considerations at that time, and later news events impacting us all, delayed those plans…this week The New York Times published a piece that was highly critical of Ronan Farrow’s journalistic methods and standards,” he went on to write.

“The rush to judgment was swift,” Matt said of the allegation against him.

“In fact, on the morning I was falsely accused of rape, and before I could even issue a statement, some journalists were already calling my accuser ‘brave’ and ‘courageous’…I was also disappointed, but not surprised, that Ronan Farrow’s overall reporting faced so little scrutiny. Until this week’s critical reporting by The New York Times, many in the media perceived his work as inherently beyond basic questioning. However, [Farrow] was hardly an unbiased journalist when it came to anything to do with NBC, and he was rarely challenged as he dropped salacious stories in a daily marketing effort designed to create media attention for his book,” Matt wrote.

“This is not just about accusations against the former host of the Today show. It’s about whether changing social attitudes can be allowed to change the most fundamental rules of journalism…it’s about whether, as journalists, we have a responsibility to check facts and vet sources,” he continued. “All I’ll say on this is that Matt Lauer is just wrong. Catch and Kill was thoroughly reported and fact-checked, including with Matt Lauer himself,” Ronan later wrote on Twitter.

Ronan Farrow recently called out his book publisher for this reason.

Ronan Farrow Calls Out His Publisher for Acquiring Father Woody Allen's Memoir

Grand Central Publishing, which is a division of Hatchette, announced they will publish Woody‘s book, Apropos of Nothing, on April 7.

“Hachette, my publisher, acquired Woody Allen’s memoir after other major publishers refused to do so and concealed the decision from me and its own employees while we were working on Catch and Kill—a book about how powerful men, including Woody Allen, avoid accountability for sexual abuse. I’ve also told Hachette that a publisher that would conduct itself in this way is one I can’t work with in good conscience,” he wrote on Twitter.

“My sister Dylan has never been contacted to respond to any denial or mischaracterization of the abuse she suffered at the hands of Woody Allen—a credible allegation maintained for almost three decades, backed up by contemporaneous accounts and evidence,” he went on to say.

“I’ve encouraged Hachette, out of respect for its readers, authors and reputation, to conduct a thorough fact check of Woody Allen’s account, in particular any claim that implies my sister is not telling the truth.”

Woody Allen has maintained his innocence amid allegations of abusing his daughter, Dylan. Here’s what she said about the book…

During the event, Matt opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about changing the direction of his career and said he had to “un-brand” himself from just starring in romantic comedies.

“I took off, and had an un-branding phase. Not a re-branding phrase, an un-branding phase,” Matt recalled after the birth of his son Levi in 2008. “I said, ‘I’m out.’”

“That anonymity, that being away, that not being the shirtless guy on the beach in a rom-com, by un-branding, then all of a sudden things came to me that I had been wanting to do,” Matt added. “Dramatic roles that I had been pursuing were coming my way.”

Other stars in attendance included Trevor Noah, journalist Ronan Farrow, activist Gloria Steinem, Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi, and tennis icon Billie Jean King.

If you missed it, Matt is trying to set up his mom with this actor’s dad!
