Back in October of 2019, Dedrek, a trans man and longtime family friend of Rosario‘s who also worked for them in Los Angeles doing household repairs, filed a lawsuit alleging mistreatment and discrimination including physical assault and anti-trans insults.

The case began to lose steam last fall, when the court granted Dedrek’s voluntary request to withdraw all but two of his claims. The lawyer representing him also withdrew from the case.

According to the Los Angeles Superior Court, a judge threw out those final remaining claims after he did not respond to repeated court requests for documentation, answers to questions, and an independent medical examination to reinforce his claims of mental and physical harm.

“My family is pleased that this baseless suit is over. While the vast majority of the false claims had been voluntarily withdrawn last year-including every single false claim of discrimination-the court has now terminated the remainder of the case allowing us all to move forward,” Rosario said in a statement.

“That these false claims came from someone we’ve known as chosen family for decades and who we were trying so hard to help out, as we have many times in the past, was very heartbreaking. Nevertheless, we have great empathy for him and have only ever wished him well.”

Rosario made an appearance at this high-profile political event earlier in the year.

Rosario Dawson Says Fans Were The Biggest Reason She Was Cast in 'The Mandalorian'

Rosario Dawson has to thank her fans for helping in her getting the role of Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian.

In her interview with Vanity Fair, the 41-year-old actress shared that the role came to her after the show’s crew noticed them campaigning for her to play the character on the Disney+ series.

“It first came from fans online,” she shared. “Someone tweeted me and fancast me. I retweeted back and I was like, ‘Absolutely, yes please’ and ‘#AhsokaLives.’ And apparently that got the attention of someone who has been doing the Star Wars press for years.”

Rosario added that it was then “forwarded it to Dave Filoni. That kind of started a whole thing. I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, did I just get fancast in something?’ And then nothing happened.”

While it took a while for producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni to call her up, the casting became clear once Rosario and Dave met face to face.

“When I met Rosario, I just knew she was right for Ahsoka,” he said in the same interview. “Yes there was the tweet, and her interest in the part, yes she has been in action movies and is a huge fan of sci-fi and fantasy stories, yes, she knew Hayden Christensen and pictures of them together look like Anakin and Ahsoka. But in the end, when I met her and we talked, I just knew.”

Rosario made her debut as the fan favorite character, who was first introduced in Clone Wars and Rebels, in the recent episode.

In the episode, Ahsoka revealed something very important about Baby Yoda, aka, The Child. See what it was here…

Rosario Dawson Responds to Allegations That She's Transphobic After That Lawsuit

The Mandalorian‘s Rosario Dawson was sued in 2019 for allegedly discriminating against a transgender man and now, she’s speaking out about the allegations that she has anti-trans bias.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Rosario was asked, “The claim accused you and other family members of anti-trans bias, and you’ve called the lawsuit false and baseless. But what do you say to those Star Wars fans who hear this and believe the worst—that you are transphobic?”

Rosario responded, “Well, firstly, I just want to say I understand that, and why people were concerned, and are concerned. I would be too if I heard some of those claims. But I mean, as we’re seeing right now in these past months, and just recently, actually, the truth is coming out.”

She continued, “Every single claim of discrimination has been dismissed by the person who made them, and as you’ve said, the fact that this is coming from someone I’ve known since I was a teenager, the better part of my life, and who my family was trying to help as we have many times in the past, it really just makes me sad. But I still have a great empathy for him.”

The lawsuit filed by Dedrek Finley, according to TMZ, states that Rosario and her family allegedly used the wrong pronouns after he came out. Dedrek also claims that things once got physical between him and Rosario‘s mother.

Vanity Fair continued questioning Rosario about these incidents, adding, “Court records show 18 of the 20 claims were withdrawn voluntarily without a settlement, and his lawyer left the case. Two counts remain alleging a physical altercation, and a judge will rule on whether that can move forward next month. There are people that would say, “Well, this is just another example of a wealthy, famous person overpowering the system.” So what would you say to those people who are unconvinced, both about this case and about what you actually believe about trans people?”

She added, “The reason that all of the discrimination claims were dropped is because they didn’t happen. I was raised in a very inclusive and loving way, and that’s how I’ve lived my entire life. I’ve always used my voice to fight for, lift up, and empower the LGBTQA community, and use my platform to channel trans voices, in fiction and nonfiction work that I’ve produced and directed. So I feel the record is really clear.”
