Prince Philip Helped To Design The Land Rover Hearse His Coffin Will Be Carried On For His Funeral

One of Prince Philip‘s wishes for his funeral was to be transported on his favorite vehicle – a Land Rover.

The late royal’s coffin will be carried on a customized Land Rover that he helped to design in years prior to his passing.

Philip was a big fan of the British-made vehicle, which reflected his interest in engineering and technology.

The Land Rover hearse had been “designed and custom-made to the duke’s specification,” Buckingham Palace said, adding that the Duke of Edinburgh started on the design with the car manufacturing company about 18 years ago.

It’s based on the Land Rover Defender TD 130, and has an open-top rear section based on Philip’s specifications. It was also painted dark bronze green, which is the same color the British military uses for many of its Land Rovers.

The modified vehicle also has special “stops” to secure his coffin in place.

Queen Elizabeth Lays Down Rule For Prince Philip's Funeral: No Military Attire

Queen Elizabeth has just banned military attire at Prince Philip‘s funeral, this coming weekend.

According to The Telegraph, the monarch laid down the rule after many questions were raised over if Prince Harry would be the only member of the Royal Family not to wear them.

Harry was stripped of his honorary military titles once he stepped down as Senior Royal.

In order to keep the focus on honoring Prince Philip, the Queen has advised all senior male royals to simply wear suits and ties and dispatch with the uniforms.

The matter was brought up following a report that Prince Andrew had made the request to wear his own uniform.

Andrew had stepped away from royal duties in 2019, after his association with Jeffrey Epstein was made more public. However, his military status was never stripped of him.

The details of Prince Philip‘s funeral were made public a few days ago.

Prince Philip's Duke of Edinburgh Title Will Go To This One of His Kids

In the past few years, it’s been debated about just which of Prince Philip‘s sons would inherit his title of the Duke of Edinburgh upon his death.

It was rumored that the title would automatically be given to Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, who is Philip and Queen Elizabeth II‘s youngest child.

The thought was that since Edward had chosen an Earldom upon his marriage to Sophie Rhys-Jones, the Countess of Wessex, that he was planning to inherit the Dukedom as well.

However, it seems that is not the case right now.
