Ryan Lochte has failed to qualify for the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and he’s emotionally opening up about his future.

The 36-year-old Olympian has already won 12 medals throughout his career from swimming at four prior Olympics.

Ryan finished in seventh place in 200-meter individual medley at the U.S. Olympic swimming trials on Friday (June 18) in Omaha, Nebraska. Only the top two athletes move on to the Olympics.

“Swimming has taken me so far,” Ryan said during a press conference after the meet. “Coming out of the water, just what’s swimming’s done for me and my family is unbelievable. To me, the world’s greatest sport. Very emotional. I was kind of taking it all in. I really wanted to be on the Olympic team. I think this is probably my most important swim meet that I’ve ever had in my entire career, the one that meant the most to me. So falling short and feeling like I let everyone down was one of the hardest things.”

“But I had my family there, my kids, they got to watch their daddy swim, so I guess, you know, that means everything to me,” he added.

Ryan Lochte has revealed that he’s now estranged from his mom, Ileana.

The 36-year-old Olympian opened up in a new interview with In Depth with Graham Bensinger, sharing that his relationship with his mother isn’t what it once was.

Ryan explains that his parents’ divorce contributed to his feelings about his mom.

“At one point, we were all against someone, and then later on in life, it changed,” he says. “When it happened, it was — we were all on my mom’s side. But then later on in life, when I told her that she was going to be a grandma, and I’m having a kid she said some very, very hurtful things that kind of ended our relationship, me and her.”

Ryan didn’t reveal the actual things his mom said to him, but did say that “she just said some things to me and my wife, but I mean, I can get over it, but I just want an apology from her. And she said that she’ll never apologize.”

He and wife Kayla have two children together – Caiden, 3, and 15-month-old Liv.

While he might be estranged from his mom, Ryan says that he is now “closer than ever” with his dad, Steven, and also praised his stepmother: “How she treats me, my family, my dad. She’s the best.”

Ryan Lochte is on the mend.

The 36-year-old Olympic swimmer took to his Instagram Story on Saturday (August 22) to reveal that he had to undergo appendicitis surgery.

“Wish me luck,” Ryan captioned the first selfie from his hospital bed while wearing a black face mask.

Ryan also shared a clip of his “moral support my boo” wife Kayla sitting at his bedside.

After the surgery, Ryan shared a video with breathing tubes in his nose and his eyes barely open, letting fans know that the surgery was a success.

“Hey everyone, surgery went amazing. I’m all good — I feel great right now,” Ryan said as he smiled at the camera, next showing a glimpse of his “post-surgery meal” of steak, french fries and a Caesar salad.

Ryan and Kayla married in January 2018 and share two kids: son Caiden, 3, and daughter Liv, 14 months.

Ryan Lochte is a father of two!

The 34-year-old Olympic swimmer announced on Instagram on Monday (June 17) that he and wife Kayla Rae had welcomed their daughter, Liv Rae.

“Miracle #2 witnessed. Liv Rae Lochte was born today at 10:20am. 7lbs 8oz. At 20inch long. She is perfect in every way! #blessed #daddysgirl #lochtefamilyof4,” Ryan captioned the below photo as he introduces baby Liv to her big brother Caiden, 2.

Ryan and Kayla Rae officially tied the knot back in January 2018, before having a lavish ceremony in September 2018.

Well, this week, he got a lesson from a very famous swimmer: Olympian Ryan Lochte! They documented their lesson on social media together.

“Not a bad way to start my week. Swimming with @johnlegend giving him some swim tips and getting him ready for 2020 Olympics haha!,” Ryan captioned a video of them swimming together, which John also re-posted to his Instagram Story.

“Yes!!!!! It’s a girl! I guess @caidenzanelochte wanted a boy haha #girl #soblessed #cloud9,” Ryan wrote. In the photo, their son Caiden Lochte, 18 months, is crying! Aw!
