Ryan O'Connell Gets A Cute New Relationship in Season 2 Of 'Special'!

Ryan is clearly smitten with his new boyfriend, Tanner, in the brand new trailer for season two of Special.

Here’s the official summary for the upcoming season on Netflix: Ryan really needs to get his shit together. It’s been two months and he still hasn’t spoken to Karen since their fight and he has a gnarly case of writer’s block that’s getting him in hot water with Olivia.

Enter Tanner, a fun, flirty dance instructor who charms Ryan despite not being totally available. When his writer’s block eventually lifts, he’s inspired to write a longform piece about disability. From there, he begins a journey of self-discovery that creates unexpected complications in his relationship with Tanner.

This season is about our primary characters – Ryan, Karen and Kim – coming into their power and realizing they all deserve big gorgeous lives—whether society agrees or not, bitch!

Ryan O’Connell, Jessica Hecht, and Punam Patel all return for the show, as well as Marla Mindelle, Gina Hughes and Patrick Fabian.

Special season two will debut on Netflix on May 20.

Special's Ryan O'Connell Talks Emmy Nom & What's Next

Ryan O’Connell poses for a photo with Special co-stars Jessica Hecht and Punam Patel while attending an Emmys For Your Consideration event for their series on Wednesday (August 14) in Hollywood.

All three of the actors are nominated for their performances on the Netflix series in the short form categories. The show is also up for Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama Series.

Ryan recently chatted with IndieWire about his surprise Emmy nomination (he got the nom after someone else was disqualified) and what’s next for him.

“It’s surreal. This show was made for $2 and a prayer in Austin, Texas, in a hot summer,” Ryan said. “It was a magical shoot. It was was sort of like a #blessed shoot. I say #blessed because when you’re doing something on a micro-budget, there are a million things that can go wrong, and they just didn’t ever go wrong.”

Ryan says that he’s open to working in both TV and film in the future.

“A girl’s gotta eat. A disabled superhero would be really chic, and I feel like I should just put that out there,” he said. “My f–king disabled ass out there, kicking ass.”

'Special' Actor Ryan O'Connell Earns Emmy Nom After a Snafu!

Ryan O’Connell just earned his second Emmy nomination after the Academy disqualified a nominated series!

Better Call Saul short Employee Training: Madrigal Electromotive Security is no longer eligible for nominations as it didn’t meet the requirements of having a minimum of six episodes with a run-time of two minutes.

The show lost its nominations for Outstanding Short Form Comedy Or Drama Series and Outstanding Actor In A Short Form Comedy Or Drama Series for Jonathan Banks.

The series State of the Union received the series nomination while Ryan got the acting nomination for his work on Special. The new nominees had received the next highest number of votes in the category, according to THR.

Ryan had previously received a nomination for producing Special, which is up for Outstanding Short Form Comedy Or Drama Series.

“Omg! Thanks to a snafu, I got an Emmy nomination for best actor in Special! Looks like I better call Saul to say thank you!!! (is that joke OK or should I just send myself to jail now?),” he wrote on Instagram after the news was announced.
