Spike Lee Angered by 'Green Book' Win, Storms Out of Oscars

Spike Lee was reportedly so upset by Green Book winning the award for Best Picture, that he tried to storm out of the 2019 Oscars before the show ended.

The 61-year-old filmmaker won his first Oscar that night in the Best Adapted Screenplay category for writing the movie BlacKkKlansman. The film was also nominated for Best Picture.

Spike reportedly waved his hands in the air and then stormed to the doors of the theater during the Green Book producers’ acceptance speech. He was told he had to go back to his seat though, according an Associated Press reporter.

“I’m snakebit. Every time someone’s driving somebody, I lose,” Spike later told reporters about Green Book winning. “I thought I was court side at the Garden and the refs made a bad call.”

Spike is referring to his movie Do the Right Thing losing the 1990 Oscar for Best Screenplay to another movie about someone driving another person, Driving Miss Daisy.

After the show, Spike was seen celebrating his win at the Governors Ball with Barbra Streisand, a fan of his movie.
