Also in attendance at the viewing party was Game of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel, America’s Got Talent host Terry Crews and his wife Rebecca King-Crews, singer Haley Reinhart and model Camila Coelho.

Aerosmith's Joey Kramer Joins Band to Accept Award After Being Blocked from Performing

Aerosmith‘s Steven Tyler and Joey Kramer pose with their awards at the 2020 MusiCares Person of the Year held at Los Angeles Convention Center on Friday night (January 24) in Los Angeles.

Joining them were bandmates Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, and Tom Hamilton.

Aerosmith was honored with the Person of the Year Award at this year’s MusiCares Gala during Grammys weekend. The band blocked Joey from performing with them at the event due to a temporary disability that would reportedly not allow him to perform at an “appropriate level.” He then sued the band for breach of contract, but the judge turned down his request to perform at the event.

Joey was allowed to attend as a guest and honoree, but left the stage after the band accepted the award.

“They are brothers. They refer to each other as brothers and they even fight like brothers,” the group’s lawyer Dina LaPolt said while introducing the band.

Aerosmith Reacts to Joey Kramer Suing Band Ahead of Grammys (Report)

Aerosmith is responding to member Joey Kramer reportedly filing a lawsuit against them for excluding him from their 2020 Grammys performance.

The 69-year-old drummer says his fellow members – Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, and Brad Whitford – are not letting him rejoin the band following a temporary disability, which has never been done to any of them, TMZ reports.

Joey reportedly suffered minor injuries in spring 2019, and when he felt he was ready to return, he was asked to audition to prove his could “play at an appropriate level.”

Joey says that the stress of the situation had “significant repercussions” to his health, and he wound up in the hospital in November, requiring him to cover the cost of a replacement drummer.

When Joey finally auditioned in early January, the band did not let him rejoin.

Aerosmith says they tried to get Joey back for months, but that he couldn’t get it together in time and always backed out.

Joey Kramer‘s legal team has requested that a judge allow him to rehearse with the band (rather than with a “click track”), but no final decision has been made. The case will be revisited on Tuesday (January 21).

“When I first got sober, [I thought], ‘My life is over. The fun is done. I’m not going to be cool,’” he admitted.

“I was probably sober two or three weeks maybe and I got a phone call from Steven Tyler, who I did not know. He called me and said, ‘I heard you’re in recovery and I just wanted to say hey, you’re going to do great.’ I thought, ‘If it’s good enough for Steven Tyler, it’s good enough for me.’

“He’s a big part of who I am today,” he went on to say.

“I was so excited that I could still be cool and not have to be the life of the party. And that there was a great club of people in the world who have had fun, killed it, been there done and were willing and able to turn a new page and have an even better life. That’s actually more fun and more exciting,” he told People.

On Aerosmith’s battle with drugs: “There were no such things as rehabs; there were mental institutions. I went away in ’84 and ’86, and I didn’t really get it. The early ’80s were terrible, and drugs took us down. I was the first one to get treatment. There was a moment in ’88 where management and the band pulled an intervention on me. They thought, ‘Get the lead singer sober, and all our problems would be over.’ So, I got sober, and you know it took me many years to get over the anger of them sending me to rehab while they went on vacation. But today because of that moment… I am grateful and owe a thanks to them for my sobriety.”

On Aerosmith’s residency in Las Vegas:
“They hear us play good old rock ’n’ roll, and there are no samples. I sing in the same key, and Joe [Perry] plays like a madman. Listen, I get to stand next to Joe Perry—he is a true rock star, one of the last. He’s just the greatest. He survived. And keep in mind, something that no one talks about is loud noise…”

On his legacy: “I stayed in this band because I know the power that Joe and I have from all the songs that we’ve written, or Brad and Tom and Joey…Joey has been here through thick and thin. I have had many times in my life where I just couldn’t handle, whether it was a marriage or my addiction had reared its ugly head, and the rest of the guys in the band are not unlike that. But we have all seen each other through it, and we are here today. My whole life is dreams coming true. I am so beyond grateful for it all.”
