BTS Member Suga Still Can't 'Raise My Arm' or Perform Months After Shoulder Surgery

Suga is sharing an update after his shoulder surgery with fans.

The 27-year-old BTS member revealed in a new interview that he is still in the recovery phase after undergoing shoulder surgery back in November.

“The pain is one thing, but when my shoulders got worse, I couldn’t even raise my arms,” Suga told Weverse Magazine.

As he continues to recover, Suga can’t join his fellow BTS members as they promote their new album BE, which was released in November. Suga admitted that he’s feeling emotionally drained as he sees the global super group perform without him.

“I could see the emptiness [onstage] because we’ve been together as a group of seven for so long,” Suga admitted. “Not necessarily because I’m not there, but because something that should be there is missing.”

During a performance at the 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards in December, a cyber version of Suga – similar to a hologram – appeared with the rest of BTS during their performance.

“There’s this 3D studio where we shot it. I shot, scanned and acted there, but [I] couldn’t see the actual result at the studio,” Suga explained. “I thought a sense of displacement was unavoidable and that was exactly the case.”

Suga might be upset that the shoulder surgery recovery is taking so long, but he’s trying to stay optimistic.

“Apparently, it takes several months for a full recovery. But, I’m trying to get better as fast as possible.” Suga said, adding, “I think it’ll get even better once I take off this brace.”

“Following their first invitation to the UN General Assembly in 2018, BTS returned to build on their previous message of ‘LOVE MYSELF’ to impart for 2020 a message of ‘Let’s live on in a new world,’ breaking free from despair and supporting one another in warm solidarity,” their official channel declares.

“Life goes on,” they all encouraged during the powerful appearance.

The song is an ode to MAX‘s wife Emily, as they are expecting their first child together. She also appears in the accompanying music video.

“Our musical relationship stemmed from a friendship and that he brought me to Korean barbecue and we just talked about music. He asked me to be on his project Agust D and I asked him to be on my album. So I sent him every song in the album and I just said, ‘Whichever one you’re feeling you can jump on.’ He loved ‘Blueberry Eyes’ and it’s amazing because his verse is so poetic and romantic and he slid his own story right into it. It’s really perfect,” MAX explained of working together with SUGA again.

BTS Member Suga's Agency Apologizes for Controversial Jim Jones Speech Sample

He first released as self-titled Agust D mixtape back in 2016. His latest set immediately rocketed to the No. 1 spot on the iTunes Albums chart in the U.S. upon release, and occupied almost the entirety of the Top 10 on the iTunes Songs chart as well.

The collection includes a feature by bandmate RM on “Strange.”

“I can show a more raw side to myself…it’s more that I made the music I wanted to make, rather than fixating on attempting something new,” he explained to Time of his passion project.

“I’m not too picky on genre or crossovers between them. What’s good is good, and it’s up to the listeners to judge. I just do what I want to do.”
