Tim Tebow‘s time on the baseball field is over.

The 33-year-old New York Mets outfielder took to Twitter on Wednesday (February 17) to announce his departure from the minor league four years after joining the team.

“I want to thank the Mets, [Team President Sandy] Alderson, the fans and all my teammates for the chance to be a part of such a great organization,” Tim first tweeted. “I loved every minute of the journey, but at this time I feel called in other directions.”

He added, “I never want to be partially in on anything. I always want to be 100% in on whatever I choose. Thank you again for everyone’s support of this awesome journey in baseball, I’ll always cherish my time as a Met!”

Tim first joined the Mets in 2016, marking his return to baseball for the first time since playing in high school.

Tim‘s return to baseball comes after his pro football career unofficially ended in 2013 when he was released from the New York Jets. He played one season as the quarterback for the Jets after two seasons with the Denver Broncos.

Tim Tebow just recently celebrated his one-year wedding anniversary with wife Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters in January.

The pair said “I do” in front of 260 guests at sunset at La Paris Estate in Cape Town, South Africa.

The bride, who is from South Africa, wore a gown from David’s Bridal with jewels from Marion Rehwinkel Jewelery.

“I’ve been looking forward to three things,” Tim told People about the day. “The first moment I see her in her wedding dress, the first kiss, and the first dance together as man and wife. It’s such a special night.”

He added, “I’ve been waiting my entire life for someone special, who I can spend the rest of my life with. I was waiting for the right person to come along. And now I’m marrying Demi. I can’t wait to see what our future holds. All of my dreams have come true. It was 100 percent worth the wait.”

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters and her family have suffered a devastating loss. Her 13-year-old half-sister Franje has passed away.

The 23-year-old former Miss Universe and her fiance, Tim Tebow, announced her passing over the weekend.

“My little Princess, Angel on Earth, biggest joy and baby sister, Franje, passed away earlier today. Our hearts are aching beyond measure but I am grateful knowing she’s forever relieved of the pain she experienced on earth. She’s laughing, running and playing in heaven just like we always hoped she would on earth . She’s free ! Thank you for all your prayers, love and support,” Demi-Leigh posted on Instagram.

Tim added on his Instagram, “Our loss but heavens gain. So grateful for the hope we have of being reunited with the ones we love through our Heavenly Father. Mr & Mrs Peters and @demileighnp we are praying for you and love you so much.”

Franje reportedly suffered from a rare condition called cerebellar agenesis, which means the brain forms without the cerebellum.

Tim Tebow and fiancee Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters kick off the weekend at Shaq’s Funhouse at Live! At the Battery on Friday night (February 1) in Atlanta, Ga.

The newly engaged couple joined host Shaquille O’Neal, Phaedra Parks, Akon, Sharna Burgess, and performers Migos and Lil Jon at the Super Bowl Weekend event.

The fun night also featured carnival attractions, a once-in-a-lifetime performance from Mystère by Cirque Du Soleil, interactive circus performers.

Tim and Demi-Leigh announced their engagement via Instagram earlier this month. Be sure to check out the beautiful setup he used to propose. The pair confirmed their relationship over the summer last year.

Tim Tebow and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters are celebrating their engagement at the happiest place on earth!

The 31-year-old former NFL quarterback and the 23-year-old Miss Universe headed to Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park on Friday (January 11) in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Tim and Demi-Leigh posed alongside fellow couple Prince Charming and Cinderella before taking a ride on Dumbo the Flying Elephant.

“My Prince Charming ❤️ @timtebow @waltdisneyworld,” Demi-Leigh wrote on her Instagram after the trip, adding, “Just soaking up all the excitement of the last few days.”

The cute couple announced their engagment last week after Tim popped the question at his family’s farm in Florida.
