Torrey DeVitto Details The 'Intense' Filming Protocols in Place on 'Chicago Med'

Torrey DeVitto is opening up about the eye opening protocols in place for the new season as they film during a pandemic.

The 36-year-old actress, who portrays Dr. Natalie Manning on Chicago Med, spoke with US Weekly about the new practices in place, which adhere to the new industry standards amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“It’s been really interesting. For everyone in the world right now, it’s a whole new world, but working under these conditions is really interesting because there are so many protocols in place,” Torrey shared about the situation. “It was really mind-blowing for me, how well NBC kind of took control of the situation and how much they’re spending just on keeping us safe alone.”

One of the biggest changes on set is that she and her co-stars come to the set early and are tested five days a week for COVID-19.

Torrey also revealed that they are only permitted to take their masks off when filming.

“We’re only allowed to have our masks off for 10 minutes at a time, so once we take our masks off during shooting, a timer goes off, and we have to do 10 minutes on the dot,” she said. “It’s just very intense.”

“I kind of have to take a moment to remember — and I have to ask [questions] as well because my mind gets so caught up in all these protocols!”

Torrey did add that since she stars on a medical drama, she has been scratching her head about people complaining about wearing a mask at all.

“Here we are being asked first, to just sit on our couch, and then second, to wear a mask in public. It’s like, are you serious? We’re complaining about that?” she says. “You’re being asked to put a piece of cloth over your mouth. It’s mind-blowing for me that some people have an issue with it.”

Chicago Med will return on November 11 on NBC.

Get to Know Chicago Med's Torrey DeVitto with These 10 Fun Facts (Exclusive)

Chicago Med is returning for season five tonight and we caught up with the show’s star Torrey DeVitto to learn more about her!

The 35-year-old actress has previously appeared on shows like Pretty Little Liars, One Tree Hill, and The Vampire Diaries. As you’ll learn in the 10 Fun Facts below, she is also an accomplished violinist and has plenty of other talents.

Here are some things you probably don’t know about Torrey:

  • 1. I have been playing classical violin since I was 6. I took my playing out of the classical realm when I was 18 and had just moved to L.A. by playing a jazz violin piece by Noel Pointer while being backed up by Brian McKnight‘s band at a comedy/music show that Tommy Davidson (whom I met while waitressing in Woodland Hills) put together at a club in Hollywood. (My best friend Arielle Kebbel, who had also just moved to L.A., came to watch and support). Through Tommy I met Rapheal Saadiq and ended up playing on his album Ray Ray on a song called “I Love Her.” I also played on Stevie Nicks album called In your Dreams on a song called “Moonlight.” I did the music video for that song as well.
  • 2. Stevie Nicks is like a family member to me. When I lost one of my childhood best friends Donald to suicide, she wrote the violin part in “Moonlight” and asked me to play it, saying she wrote it specifically for me and was dedicating that part to me and my friend who had passed.
  • 3. I am an avid hula hooper. Tricks and all!
  • 4. If I could sing I would have only done musicals. I am obsessed with musicals!
  • 5. I am notorious for randomly twirling. I don’t even know I’m doing it when I do it. Sometimes I’ll do it in the middle of a conversation and won’t even realize its happened. My costar from Chicago Med, Marlyne Barrett, loves to call me out for it.

Amber Heard Opens Up About Her Medical Missions to Jordan & Lebanon

Amber Heard is speaking out about her experiences.

The 32-year-old actress and activist attended the 2019 SAMS Midwest Chapter Annual Gala as keynote speaker on Saturday night (March 16) in Chicago, Ill.

Chicago Med star Torrey DeVitto was also in attendance at the event.

Syrian American Medical Society, or SAMS, is a global medical relief organization that is working on the front lines of crisis relief in Syria, in neighboring countries, and beyond to save lives and alleviate suffering.

In her speech, Amber spoke about the impact that SAMS medical missions have had on her, and shared the stories of some of the inspiring individuals she spoke to and the dedication and selflessness of SAMS volunteers she met during the missions.

“Empathy is a remarkably selfless emotion—it requires a person to leave the comfort of their own perceived place in the world and inhabit the experience of someone else. It is an inherently frightening and disorienting state of being, one that can be extremely rewarding but also unbelievably draining,” she said.

Amber accompanied SAMS on two medical missions to Jordan and Lebanon.

“I’ve certainly never given anyone an injection nor do I know what to do with a stethoscope. But what I can do is use my platform and my skill as a storyteller to inspire others to take small incremental actions in support of a common cause,” she said.

The event was sponsored by Merrill Lynch and The Ajroudi Foundation.
