“This is the first major move in a programming shift at Comedy Central focused on ramping up adult animated content and building an original animated slate around South Park. The major programming pivot already was in the planning stages when Comedy Central recently laid off the majority of its senior programming team,” Deadline reports.

The series will be based on Jodie Landon, Daria’s friend at the fictional Lawndale High. Jodie picks up with her character graduating from college and “entering a complicated world.”

Here’s a plot description: “The series will satirize workplace culture, Gen Z struggles, the artifice of social media and more. With themes of empowerment along gender and racial lines, explorations of privilege, and a wicked sense of humor, Jodie will shine a light on the personal and professional issues young Black women face today.”

Tracee Ellis Ross Sheds Light on Being a Black Woman in Music in 'The High Note' Clip (Exclusive)

Tracee Ellis Ross and Dakota Johnson‘s new movie The High Note is now available to rent at home on demand and the film includes a scene that sheds light on what it’s like to be a black woman in the music industry.

In the film, Tracee plays Grace Davis, a huge music star who hasn’t released an album in years, and Dakota plays her personal assistant, who is also an aspiring music producer.

In the exclusive clip that we’re premiering on JustJared.com, Dakota‘s character Maggie tries to convince Grace that she should record a new album.

Grace responds by explaining what it’s like to be a black woman of a certain age in the music industry. She says, “In the history of music, only five women over 40 have ever had a number one hit. And only one of them was black. One. Do you understand that? No, you do not understand that and none of you guys in there understand what I’ve been through. So, I don’t know. We can just pretend. We can pretend we live in some sort of magical world where I don’t know, age and race are not a thing.”

You can watch The High Note right now by renting it on iTunes, Amazon, or wherever you get your digital movies.

During her appearance, she spoke about how she felt having her mother, Diana Ross, hear her sing professionally for the first time in upcoming film The High Note, out this May.

“This was one of the most beautiful moments of my life, I think…she came out of the house, came out of the garage, got in my car, closed the windows, and I was, like, okay. Here it is, mom. Here’s me,” she explained.

“You can imagine, you know, we all have fears. We all have these things that we’ve hidden away that we think are not worthy of coming forward. They might not be good enough. They might be compared to somebody else. And I had to realize that it’s not the sound of my voice, it’s the honesty of my voice that is the key. I’m not supposed to sound like my mom…I’m not even supposed to be her. I can’t fill her shoes. No one can fill her shoes.”

“I got her in the car and the first note happened…she pushed my arm and she turns to me and her face was covered in tears. And she said, ‘Finally.’”
