Dwayne Johnson to Produce Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Led Thriller 'Emergency Contact'

Dwayne Johnson and his longtime collaborator Beau Flynn are teaming up to produce Yahya Abdul-Mateen II‘s upcoming action-thriller Emergency Contact.

According to THR, Warner Bros. has picked up the film, which is “described as being a high-concept, high-octane action film set in the underground music scene of Austin, Texas.”

Fans will recognize Yahya from his roles in Watchman, The Trial of the Chicago 7, The Greatest Showman and Us. Yahya is also set to act as an executive producer on Emergency Contact.

The movie will bring together many of the key players from Black Adam, the upcoming DC movie which stars Dwayne as the title character and is produced by Dwayne and Buck‘s respective production companies.

Jake Gyllenhaal Gets to Work Filming New Action Flick 'Ambulance' in L.A.

Jake Gyllenhaal is getting to work on his new movie!

The 40-year-old actor was spotted sipping on a coffee while arriving on set of his new movie Ambulance on Wednesday (January 20) in Los Angeles.

Joining Jake on set of the Michael Bay-directed movie were his co-stars Eiza Gonzalez and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

As of right now, details for Ambulance are being kept under wraps, but Deadline reports that the film is said to be in “the vein of the great action thrillers of the ’90s like Speed and Bay’s Bad Boys.”

'Aquaman' Villian Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Lands Role In 'Ambulance' Opposite Jake Gyllenhaal

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is adding another major movie role to his filmography.

Variety is reporting that the 34-year-old actor, who most recently was seen in The Trial of the Chicago 7, will star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Ambulance.

The movie is based on a 2005 Dutch thriller about two brothers on the run from the police. They go on to steal an ambulance without knowing it already carries a female paramedic and a patient in critical condition.

Eiza González will also star in the movie as a paramedic.

The film will start filming next month.

On top of Yahya‘s role in The Trial of the Chicago 7, you’ll also recognize him from Aquaman and HBO’s Watchmen. He’ll also be starring in the upcoming film Candyman and the fourth installment of The Matrix.

Yahya was also just added to the cast of the Mad Max prequel film!

'The Trial of the Chicago 7' Will Submit All Actors Into the Same Category at 2021 Oscars

The entire cast of the movie The Trial of the Chicago 7 will be competing in the Best Supporting Actor category at the Oscars next year.

The movie, which was written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, features 12 actors billed above the title and it’s definitely an ensemble piece. Many expected that Sacha Baron Cohen and Eddie Redmayne would be campaigned as lead actors while the rest of the cast would be in the supporting category.

Now, it’s been confirmed by THR that all actors will be campaigned in the supporting category. Another time that this has happened recently was with the movie Spotlight, which went on to win Best Picture.

The cast of the film includes, in alphabetical order, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Danny Flaherty, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Keaton, Frank Langella, John Caroll Lynch, Eddie Redmayne, Noah Robbins, Mark Rylance, Alex Sharp, and Jeremy Strong.

Many believe that the actors with the best chance at landing a nomination are Abdul-Mateen II, Cohen, and former winner Rylance.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 is now streaming on Netflix.

'Mad Max' Spinoff in the Works, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth & Yahya Abdul-Mateen II to Star!

Warner Bros. is developing a spinoff in the Mad Max universe about Furiosa, Deadline reported on Tuesday (October 13).

The spinoff from George Miller‘s Mad Max: Fury Road will follow the character played by Charlize Theron, who assisted Max in the desert.

The movie will reveal the origins of Furiosa and be played by Glass actress Anya Taylor-Joy.

Here’s a plot summary and additional production details: “The movie will track the genesis of Furiosa before she teamed up with Max Rockatansky in Fury Road. Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will also star in a movie that Miller will also direct, co-write and produce with his longtime Oscar-nominated producing partner Doug Mitchell. Miller’s own Australian-based Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner will produce.”

Mad Max: Fury Road first debuted in 2015 and grossed $375.2 million worldwide.

Aaron Sorkin‘s The Trial of the Chicago 7 finally has a trailer ahead of its Netflix debut next month!

Here’s a synopsis: What was intended to be a peaceful protest at the 1968 Democratic National Convention turned into a violent clash with police and the National Guard. The organizers of the protest—including Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden and Bobby Seale—were charged with conspiracy to incite a riot and the trial that followed was one of the most notorious in history.

The film stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Keaton, Frank Langella, John Carroll Lynch, Eddie Redmayne, Mark Rylance, Alex Sharp, Jeremy Strong, and more.

Look out for the film on Netflix on October 16.
