Daniel Day-Lewis on Quitting Acting: 'It Came To Me With A Sense Of Conviction'
Daniel Day-Lewis is opening up about accepting his decision to quit acting – even if he does not quite understand the decision himself!
“If I knew the answer I’d probably avoid trying to answer it anyway,” the 60-year-old actor recently revealed while attending a screening for his final film Phantom Thread on Thursday (February 1) at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Center in Athens, Greece. “But as it happens, I can’t answer the question.”
“I don’t fully understand it, but it came to me with a sense of conviction and so I chose to move forward in acceptance of that rather than struggling with it,” Daniel said, adding that acting was a sanctuary that “saved me from myself when I was a kid. But I just feel it’s time to explore the world in a different way now.”
Daniel is up for Best Actor at 2018 Academy Awards for his role in Phantom Thread.
