Kacey Musgraves Reveals What Forced Her to Address Her Feelings About Marriage to Ruston Kelly

Kacey Musgraves and her ex husband Ruston Kelly announced their separation back in July of 2020, and now, she’s revealing some new information.

In her new cover story with Elle magazine, Kacey spoke out about what really forced her to “sit with her cornucopia of emotions.”

In her feature with Elle, it said, “Being forced to sit with her cornucopia of emotions in self-isolation [due to the COVID-19 pandemic] was hard, but ultimately necessary.”

Kacey said, “I could have coasted for another couple of years…just not paying attention to my feelings or not really dealing with some things.” The piece continued, “Instead, she burrowed into herself, bouncing off the walls of her own anguish. She started asking herself tough questions: ‘Why did I make these decisions? How did I get here? How can I prevent myself from getting there again? Why do I keep choosing the same kind of people? I felt, in many ways, on top of the world in my career, but in my personal life, I felt like I was dying inside. I was crumbling. I was sad. I felt lonely. I felt broken.’”

She added, “I come from a family full of long marriages. My grandparents met when they were in second and third grade, and they’re still together in their 80s. It was hard to not feel like I was in some ways a failure. …There’s nothing more shameful than staying somewhere where you don’t fit anymore.”

“If you would’ve told me the night of the Grammys, ‘Hey, in two years, you’re going to be divorced and have a whole ’nother album written,’ I would have been like, ‘F*ck off. No. No way,’” she added.
